Hi,

I am about to ship off my Marantz CD-80, and I'd like to secure the CDM1MkII Philips CD drive. I have some standard Marantz locking bolts (big red things), which I thought would fit, but they dont fit on the CD-80.

It looks to me like I need a specific type of screw or bolt.

Anybody got an idea of what it is I actually need?

Nope you need to use the proper transport locking screws. Without them the swingarm will be violently, erm, swinging during transport. At this player's age it's a risk I would not take.

EDIT: is pickup an option? I sadly received a smashed (and awesome CD transport) DVD player via myHermes recently... :S

I think the transport bolts do not secure the swing arm mech. I might have to open her up and put something together which delicately performs the job of minimizing movement.

Hi took a look at my mate's player and you're right it just locks the drawer.

Yeah, they just lock the draw mostly, sometimes lock some kind of suspension... slightly over-rated!

Having said that, some linear tracking transports do have the laser locked in place with some twist of a knob or use of transport screws.

You have to suss out the abilities of the buyer and if they are intelligent or fearless enough to open up the machine before first use, then stick a piece of sponge in the swingarm mech before shipping. If they don't sound like they could cope with that then you take the risk it will cause some problem when they first try to use it!
