This is for all you Petrolheads out there who appreciate the sound of a good engine. A friend sent this file to me so I know very little about it other than that it is clean and virus free. He thinks the car was recorded at Brands Hatch and what a recording, so turn up the volume, make sure that SWMBO is out of earshot (unless she shares your passion of course) and listen to the music of 16 tiny pistons singing their hearts out... :D

Spine-tingling.
Although, it does seem to be mis-firing.

Lovely sound.

Much as I like turbos, I don't think the new spec 1.6l V6 turbo F1 engines will sound quite like that.

Good gawd I'd have loved to have been there.

Have you ever sat in the Luffield complex at Silverstone for an F1 race? The noise as they accelerate hard onto the straight is quite incredible.

Mind you, I think the TAG-McLaren turbo cars were even louder when I saw them at Brands Hatch a lifetime ago.

Did you know that in the early sixties BRM and Coventry Climax had flat 'H' 16 engine designs. Only the BRM actually raced I believe. Bet they sounded great.

Just about the best car sound I've heard was a race tuned, vintage Ferrari GTB-4 275 on open pipes being drag raced at Santa Pod donkeys years ago. That V12 sounded amazing and the car was regularly clocking quarters in 12.5 seconds @ 125mph!!!

I've mentioned this on AOS before, but if you want to see a car that does 0 to 100mph in 0.25 sec and 0 to just under 400mph in a little over 3.5 seconds, Google: Vanishing Point, Santa Pod. That was the late Sammy Miller setting the still standing world record for a quarter mile in 1984 if I recall. It was unreal and I was there!

And also previously mentioned, the YK2 gas turbine production bike 0 to around 200mph in less than ten seconds and you can buy one (at a price),. The fastest accelerating road machine.

For me, thats a no, unfortunately. Wouild love to see and hear an F1 race one day.
But i have seen a couple of drag racing competitions on Mantorp Dragway in Sweden. And the sound, or to be more precise, the impact of the Top Fuel monsters as they pull away some 25 meters from where you're sitting is quite stunning! You can always see who the rookie spectators are - They're the ones with no ear plugs or fingers in ears on the first run! :eyebrows:

Great clips, that BRM sound was magnificent!

I've never been to a drag meet, Mike, and must try to attend one.

Drag racing is the only place you'll see that much power laid on the tarmac. 10,000 bhp on some of the top fuelers and the noise is incredible, ripping thunder is what you get and the top bikes are amazing too!!!!

Better still, DRIVE in one - go on a "Run What Ya Brung" day - I bet your Beemer would humble a few of the Chavs! :eyebrows:

I'm ashamed to say that I live less than a 40 minutes drive from Santa Pod and yet I have never been there. These days I live about a quarter of a mile from Rockingham Motor Speedway where I've enjoyed watching all sorts of racing such as Indycar back in the circuits early days, Ascar, BTCC, F3, Formula Renault, Clio Cup, Mini Stocks, you name it. It is a fantastic facility and a great family day out. To have it almost on my doorstep is bloody wonderful for someone with petrol in their blood :D
