I listen to CDs almost all day at work - lucky me !
We have very few phone calls and most of our print work is done by email

I play through my CDs box at a time, 2-3 times and then bring another in from home

Recently some Ten Years after albums were playing
Not as good as I had previously thought ah well must be all the new stuff out performs it

You have hit upon the big problem with AB and blind listening tests. Once the brain has heard a piece, it doesn't have to work so hard to hear it the second time because much of the interpretation is still knocking around close at hand cerebrally speaking. It's still in the locallised mindscape. The brain will produce a more detailed interpretation the second and subsequent times round because it already has the basic form.

That might be a bit esoteric for some of you. I can hear the brain cells frying from here :D

I was heading in that direction even though these are albums I know well.
I do tests though where there is no real improvement and sometimes no real difference either - that I can make out
Swapping from A to B back to A and back to B usually shows the improvement clearly.
Sometimes I play an album I know well in the *car* and I hear something new. Now that is not a great system

My recent experiences with A/B comparing the Bushmaster DAC to the Caiman DAC revealed that with the Caiman I do hear something new, and that is the previously undetected digital glare and glassiness.

Is that because you have "opened the window" to pick up things that are there but normally unheard ?

Nope. If you go back to the various threads and the Bushmaster's product info on my website, I specifically mentioned on more than one occasion that it was one of the objectives of my new DAC. If customers had not been able to hear that additional amount of detail then all my efforts to would have been wasted.

Right. Don't have and know only a little about DACs
