Hi , I have just returned from my local boot sale and a house clearance seller has a music center with the above item installed

It has a damped closing lid on the entire system

2 stand alone speakers with 3 speakers in each one , also has a tuner fitted

Loads if tapes all boxed , the tape looks like this one

£40 the lot

NO guarantee it works and it looks like someone has had a play with it as all the screws that hold the tape player in have been removed but are still present

so is it worth going back or steer clear :eyebrows:

If the spinner is a GL75 or a similar heavy platter Lenco, then it is worth saving for £40. If you are interested in restoring or modifying an idler drive it would be a good starting point. If the platter or motor are the only salvageable parts, the price is still right.

The turntable is definitely the best piece of this - worth entry alone if as has been stated it's a GL75, GL77 or GL99. The tape deck is basic, not very hi-fi but could be good fun.

Some valve Tandbergs have nice valves inside I'm told and many of them were hardly used.....

Any heavy-platter Lenco is worth a shot, either for restoration of the original parts - the heavy old tonearms of the GL70 and earlier sound fab with an Ortofon GT or OM Pro as well as the usual Shures and DJ grade Grado's - and I'm still convinced of the merits of the GL75 and 78 arms once they're fettled and re-wired (from the arm to amp at least).
