Hi , any interest in a HI Fi meet up ?
I know of a place in South Ockendon Essex that has a
free function room
parking and a
Bar
No point in me rambling on until I know if anyone's interested
Toast off? Love it! How different is that from a bake-off? I have a rather nice Dualit, which I could bring along, that makes a mean bacon sarnie... :eyebrows:
Marco.
I be interested quite close for me
Nice one, John. Let's get a few folks along to this, as these little gatherings are essential to what makes us a community. Who else from the area can make it to Al's shindig? :)
Marco.
If anyone from NW London wants a lift if this happens let me know

You can see I am new to this , Bake off Toast off :doh::doh:
Well after over 24 hours we are up to two , need about 10 + to make it worthwhile
So don't be shy
If more interest is shown I will run a few ideas I have for this by you all :D
I'm in W2, and interested. I have lots of time demands though, so I can't commit to anything 'till there's a firm date.
I live in Essex and might be interested. However, I would need to know exactly when and where such a 'get together' is planned.
Cheers

Bit of a hike for a slice or two of bread! Will there be jam? Peanut butter?

I'm a bit scared of going to a bake-off if truth be told - I feel in a very good place with my system at the moment and can't afford to end up listening to some fancy kit that upsets the apple-cart so to speak ...
Would enjoy meeting some other AOS members though!
I'd be interested depending when.
What do you think now, Al? Are the numbers getting a bit more interesting? :)
Marco.

Watch this space :eyebrows:
Nice one, mate. We like to support these events whenever possible. Good luck with it :)

7 so far only 3 to go and then I can devote some time into organising the event :)
My thoughts on this are as follows
If I can secure the venue ( Free ) they have a fair size car park off the road
Bar , toilets , function room with tables and chairs
My idea for the event would be :-
3 attendees to bring a system each
Set up in the function room
The system owners and Each attendee to bring some of their favorite music to compare on an alternative system , say 45 minutes each , this will allow talking time and maybe some questions and answers on each system
Buy some drinks from the bar ( in moderation )
As I have not organized an event like this before , If anyone has suggestions to add please feel free to do so
If it happens and is a success maybe it could become a monthly event
What day of the week ?
As most people work ( I think ) suggestions for the event will be
Friday 19.00 on
Saturday day or evening
Sunday afternoon
All subject to the function room owners consent
Let me know what you think please

Hi Allen;
I'm in Surrey so just next door really - would be interested in participating with some professional audio tape machines along with actively driven system if you feel that would be of interest.

I love the idea of a Toast Off! I hope it catches on. Bake offs are a bit passé :)
Good luck with it Allen. I heard Stewart's tape machines and active speakers at the Subjectivist show a year or so ago. You'll love it :)

Saturday days / evenings are best for me, I'll probably be bringing a very polite & well behaved teenager (my Stepson) hope that's ok?
Cheers Allen, hope this comes off!

He's 15, does that mean he'd have to have something to eat? ;) Not a problem if I have to leave him to his own devices, I can trust him not to have any wild parties (he's too busy mending dead PS3s & hacking COD)

OK Roy
If we get to 10 and I go to see the manager I will ask if the function room is under licensing laws

Thanks Al.
I'm car-less, so public transport is a factor for me. As to time/day, weekend afternoons are best. Evenings not good.

NEARLY at the required amount :)
I can bring some gear along but speakers would be a real hassle to bring
Possibilities of what I can bring
Amp This will depend on speakers if hard to drive then not worth taking along
DAC
Turntable

I went to see the Venue owner today , and he is happy to let us have the use of the function room :D
BUT only on a Friday night ( Other events on Sat / Sun )
Its NOT the Ritz and is basic
Here are some photos taken today , they are decorating the function room at the moment

I also have a phone number to ring and confirm if the event is going ahead
SO , now all we need is some commitment
I did ask if under age people were allowed and was told YES but are not allowed to buy drinks from the bar
It was explained to me that the venue is free , but PLEASE buy some drinks as its how I keep the doors open
Over to you :)

Thanks for finding out about that Al, shame about him not being able to buy me a drink though, he's better off than me
Unfortunately Friday nights are really not on as I would like to stay married and with a roof over my heat at the moment.
Not sure I can make a Friday night sorry
I think you might have killed it, Al, with the Friday night thing....
Marco.

Marco.
Looks like it
But I did not kill it , the day of the week was given to my by the venue owner not me
Sure, but wasn't the original offer based on the premise of it happening at a weekend? That was my understanding anyway...
Why not, instead of at a pub, hold a bake-off at your place, with less people, based on those who can make it when it's most mutually convenient for everyone? :)

My place is not big enough , I live on my own :D so no nagging , I though Friday was the start of a weekend , If it happens on a Friday then Saturday and Sunday are left clear to spend quality time with the better half :D
I have 2 more places local that are not pubs but they will charge for the use of the hall as in Church Halls
Not sure anyone will want to pay that's why I suggested the free function room
I get what you're saying, Al, but the trouble is a lot of people finish work late (on what is still a working day), and perhaps have other things to do after that, so by the time they've done all that, it's too late to get to your proposed venue.
At weekends, people have more time on their hands.
Anyway, good luck with it - I hope you manage to sort something out
Marco.
