View Full Version : value of this hifi system, if anything??
Dear readers,
I hope you guys are well. I have been cleaning out the loft at my parents house and stumbled across an old hifi system that I remember from when I was a child. It always sounded pretty good and it still does!!
But anyway my father wants me to sell it and I was wondering if you guys could value it so I know what I should settle for if I stick it on ebay.
It consists of:
1) Mission Electronics PCM 7000 CD player with remote control
2) Genexxa Ten band stereo graphic equalizer
3) Acoustic Research A-04 integrated amplifier
4) Philips 900 series cassette player FC920
5) Pair of JPW speakers (power handling 70 watts, nominal impedance 6 ohms, and sensitivity 87dB)
6) Approximately 4-5 metres of thick copper speaker wire with the writing Gale Electronics XL315
It is ready to use as it comes with all the cables and mains cables. As far as condition goes, it is almost mint condition. Almost meaning there are 2 very minor scratches on top of the amp that are 15mm in length.

Above is the picture. Any estimates are appreciated.
Thanks to everyone!!

Yes, please follow Dans instructions :) You'll find you have a much better forum experience
About £130 if sold seperately on ebay?
Mission PCM7000 - Has a small crowd of appreciators so could fetch £80 (one sold in Germany for €150 a while ago)
Amp - £30 perhaps
JPWs - £20 perhaps.
The others - hard to sell IMHO (although, someone might want to complete a Philips 900 system with the cassette deck).
For the Cd player with a following, I'd rely on a lower start price to gain attention and allow people to fight over it a bit.
With the amp and speakers, I'd have a listing with a higher start price or a BIN - so that if you only get one bidder, you'll still get near enough the price you'd be happy with. How you list things is all about how many people will bid rather than necessarily based on potential value.

......alternatively you could offer it to members of a friendly hi-fi forum!
If you happen to know of one!
My valuation:
1) Mission Electronics PCM 7000 CD player with remote control - £30 to £80
2) Genexxa Ten band stereo graphic equalizer £40
3) Acoustic Research A-04 integrated amplifier £40-£100
4) Philips 900 series cassette player FC920 £20 tops
5) Pair of JPW speakers (power handling 70 watts, nominal impedance 6 ohms, and sensitivity 87dB) £30
6) Approximately 4-5 metres of thick copper speaker wire with the writing Gale Electronics XL315 £5
I'd be interested in the amp if you are selling.
thanks for the valuations you guys they sound fair, I was hoping to sell it all as a bundle but seems like it would be better if I sold seperately!
Macca, how much would you say for the amp? or if you want the whole thing you are more than welcome!!

Mate if you saw my house you would realise the last thing I need is more hi-fi gear but I do need a decent integrated amp for a friend. How does £60 plus carriage sound?

JPW Mini Monitors rarely scrape £15 on eBay. The JPW Gold (which these are not) scrapes £20.
The Gold can go for £30 on forums and classifieds but the Mini-Monitor is not likely to get more than £20.
Do you have the grilles? You'll get less without them.
Do you have boxes to post them? Again you'll get less if they are collection only as that dramatically limits your customer base.
Find a cheap courier (I use CityLink booked through Parcel2Go). High courier charges put bidders off. You should be able to send these for about a tenner.
Macca, lol your lucky you dont have a nagging wife. My missus throws all my junk out (well what looks like junk to her, not to me) whilst am at work and tells me shes put it away safe in the attic :-)
I was thinking £70 plus carriage??
Thank you technobear for your comments. These speakers have grills and again are mint condition. I shouldnt have any problems packaging and I will look into parcels2go.
I'll split the difference with you and say £75 including carriage, but that's as far as I'll go. Send me a PM if you are interested
Am going to bang everything else in the 'Exhibition' section instead of ebay, seen as though I like this place
