Hey all,

Been a lurker for a while now so thought I would take the plunge and join up :)

I am pretty new to the whole stereo world and a little bit daunted to discover the depth of gear when you get passed the mainstream brands!!

My current setup (and this was a major upgrade from my sony midi system that I had when I was a teenager :eyebrows:

Naim 5I
Macbook Pro feeding Airport Express
KEF XQ5's (Naim NACA5 Cables)
PS3
Apple TV running XBMC

By the looks of the other folks on the forum my setup looks to be toward the bottom of the ladder & I couldnt help but notice the lack of love for Naim gear on the forum?? (I could be wrong though).

My next purchase (if the missus allows) is probably the Beresford Bushmaster Dac?

Anywho looking forward to learning more about the (slightly addictive) world of audio.

J

Hi from me.

KEF XQ5 - proper loudspeakers!

To be honest (and I'm not 100% sure that your being serious) I thought that they would be frowned on in an audiophile forum?

I was being totally serious, they are a proper wide band loudspeaker. Why would they be frowned on? No gear snobs here!

Hi Jason
Welcome to AoS. Never fear of being treated according to the value of your components here - plenty of members here are very happy with their 'inferior' kit!
What sort of music do you listen to then mate?

Not thats a difficult question to answer........very eclectic, everything from classical to Jazz to Metal and everything in between!!

Just been listening to the Seu Jorge The life aquatic sessions (forgotten how good it is!) and just picked up the new album from Rumer (who sounds scarily like Karen Carpenter!). Off to see the Black Keys in a few months too (looking forward to that!)

Hi Jason,

Just look at the gallery to see the amazingly wierd and wonderful setups people have here, cost and brand snobbery isnt the naim of the game which might be why you dont find much of their gear here. Once you get past their entry level stuff its the outrageously expensive upgrade path which has always put me off, you can include cyrus with that too. All the same i do like the naim 5i and it was a contender for my main system but all said and done Rega just suited my tastes better.

I do maintain you can have lots of fun for very little money and have recently been mucking about with vintage celestion speakers and mini t amps which i've bought for less than the price of a good night on the lash!

So you need a dac eh? Plenty of good ones around these days.

Cheers

Rich

thanks all, I have to say that I am pretty happy with the setup so far and reluctant to jump to far (at the moment at lease) into the upgrade and constant improvement trap that I am sure I would fall into given half the chance!!

Be interesting to see what impact a DAC will have on the system???

Welcome, Jason. :)

Yes, all sorts of audio philosophies and system price levels exist on AOS!

My next purchase (if the missus allows) is probably the Beresford Bushmaster Dac?

Good move!
