View Full Version : Akai x-100d reel to reel
I've been offered a fully working Akia x-100d reel to reel tape player , on the few tapes i tried it sounds very good , I can't find any info on it and was wondering if the £100 asking price is fair.
thanks
Hi Steve, it would help if you spelled it properly - 'Akai'. Nick (Beechwoods) would be able to give you a fair valuation as he is a tape deck aficionado.
thats what being dyslexic does to you !
off to watch the footie now

Have you heard the machine in action? The X-100D is a late 60's machine, and if it hasn't been serviced / calibrated in recent years it is unlikely to be working to it's original spec. If you have heard it and it plays / records well, and has good provenance then £100 delivered is probably sensible, but if it's untested I would be very wary. You would need to factor in another £150-200 for servicing and setup, in which case your budget could stretch to a better machine, such as one of the late 70's or early 80's machines, that had something in the way of warranty or service history.
hI Nick,
thanks for the advice ,think I'll go adn have another look.

Are you sure its a "X-100d"
We used to print all Akai's manuals for some years and that one doesn't ring any bells

Right. That *is* old then. Quite likely out of service before we started holding all the manuals.
I had a family tree once upon a time, vaguely remember M8, I think, being one of the oldest ones, but maybe the tree started late
