MKT Polyester Film Caps?

The crossovers on a pair of 30yr old speakers that I own are fitted with what I understand to be MKT polyester caps (small rectangular silver coloured).

Can anyone tell me if this type of capacitior deteriorates at the same sort of rate as standard electrolytics or are they longer lasting

They won't deteriorate at all, they are film caps. That's not to say changing them couldn't change the sound, maybe even improve it with a careful choice.

Hi Andrew, no this is a different pair of speakers. I've decided not to change the caps on the 44's for fear of changing the sound for the worse. I read the long threads on DIY AUDIO, but I got the impression that some people were not entirely happy with the new sound straight off and were then experimenting with adding resistors to the circuits to try and restore some of the original warmth. As a recap would involve me taking my speakers to a tech who is some distance away, any necessary remedial work to fine tune things would prove impractical.

No worries I have yet to start on mine. Probably in next month or two after I have fitted the internal regs to the 1210
