Cheers Dave, Yes I would be happy with any of the older Rega's but funds dictate I'll likely have to "settle" for a brio. I picked up some kytes on eBay for £28 & they have turned my hifi on its head so now looking for a brio & planet to (hopefully) compliment. I just wish that I knew how good they were years ago :doh:

Kytes have absolutely NO real bass at all, which some regard as a good thing. They need to be used flush to the wall if they're not to scream at you and they either work or they don't, since room acoustics play such a desperately important part in their long-term listenability. The replacement Ara, with identical innards, had a touch more weight to the tone.

I really would urge you to find a clamshell Mira as the extra welly translates as more "push" if not outright "warmth" of tone - just the way we perceive the extra power and refinement.

In the meantime, get yourself a Rega Couple interconnect for the CD source, or make your own with two pairs of Neutrik Pro plugs, some silver loaded LMP solder and a couple of metres of Klotz AC110 - total £35 or so with P&P for the bits included. Sounds refined and slightly full-bodied which is perfect to "finish off" the sonics of a Planet CD player :)
