Joking aside this could open a real can of worms relating to freedom of speech.
Well, if it rids the 'Net of some of the idiots who currently poison it, then bring it on, I say!! :guns:
My view on this is that if you've got nothing to hide, then you've got nothing to lose!
Fortunately, AoS is very strictly monitored, in that respect, where the presence of trolls (or general trouble-makers) is not tolerated, and where we demand friendly behaviour from our members at all times.
That will always be the case! :)

It's actually beneficial to forum owners because it means they can release the details of people who make defamatory or libellous comments so they can be prosecuted instead of the forum owner. No more keyboard warriors hiding behind thier pseudonyms. Got to be a good thing.
Too bloody right!! I've long wanted to rid forums of such vermin, so any 'tools' available, which will help in that cause, will be a blessing!

Yes indeed, the troll count in AoS is very low and we'll keep it that way.

Agreed, it's hard to imagine more inane, uninformed and vitriolic comments anywhere.
I enable YouTube comment filtering in our firewall at work so that they don't show at all.

Never to be honest, too difficult, virtually impossible to police and far too expensive to even try.

Education. I am constantly training staff not to just click on e-mail links, for instance. There are some very convincing PayPal phishing e-mails doing the rounds at the moment and people need to learn to hover over links to see where they really go.

May I ask how or what type of scam ?
I'd rather this lot do something useful for the country and not piss about on trolls,pasties and skips.
Complete waste of space.

Really? only 12k? A drop in the ocean.
You may not be aware (nobody is really, slipped in unnoticed) but the governments "Scambusters" website - previously a vehicle of the Office of Fair Trading - is now the responsibility of the Citizens Advice Bureau. They are really nice people at the CAB (I have a great deal of professional experience) but this is a bridge too far. Especially since, at the same time of giving them added responsibility, the Government has pulled a great deal of their funding. They rely pretty much on Charity. And some towns, Sunderland for instance (not a little village) has no CAB at all (because of mis-management by a silly woman who would not listen) so what then?
We need all the help we can get in the fight against online scammers and although Forum Trolling is not pleasant it gives us the added tool of being able to quickly identify the fraudster.
No help at all though if they are operating from an Internet cafe in Laos or - as I am doing now, using a totally untraceable PAYG sim card in a dongle on a train!
You must remember that the Internet treats censorship like collateral damage and simply routes around it, (not my quote) but this will go a long way to help.

£12k esoteric 2box cd player on audiogon , turned out to be a scam
he contacted audiogon , his bank , scammers bank & police
no one was interested
Not wishing to be a party pooper Scott, but had he been a bit more interested in making sure the sale was genuine before parting with 12K, then perhaps he wouldn't have been caught out? Shocking to lose that much I know, but you cannot trust people online anymore than you can buying something down a dark alley.
Its very sad, but online fraudsters are virtually impossible to catch if they are cute and know how to cover their tracks, so buyers have to be a lot more savvy these days.

Pain in the arse, that. I have to check the logs every day to ensure that our students haven't found a new proxy site to circumvent our filtering. It's not just a child protection issue, it's the bandwidth consumption.
Last night a girl used 5GB in watching a spanish film that she shouldn't have been. Meanwhile, all the others wonder why things are slow :rolleyes:

Sorry, but really? Who is going to part with £12k without seeing the goods? There is a case for 'buyer beware' and taking standard precautions.
It's a real shame, but the word 'daftee' springs to mind! :doh:
