Lounge (AV) system

Finally got round to taking some (pretty crummy) pics of my lounge system. (Updated stereo system pics here (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?p=333262#post333262)).

This has changed its main role from "the" hifi into an AV system with Sat PVR, DVD, Xbox, Wii (currently on loan).

However, stereo hangs in there with a Sugden Headmaster pre-amp fed from a Squeezebox Transporter and a Technics SL7/Graham Slee Era Gold V combo. The SL7 sits on a custom support from SRM/Tech. H'phones are either Denon AH-D7000 or Sennheiser HD650.

There's also a Mac Mini in the rack, now largely superseded by Xbox "apps", and the Foxsat PVR gets less use as well with the TV players on the Xbox working so well. DVDs plus the occasional SACD and DVD-A go via an Oppo DV980H

Amplification is an Onkyo TX-SR607 going to a pair of AVI Neutron 5s (front), Audica Pro Microlines (rear), and a BK XLS300PR sub.

Nice looking little system, I'd appreciate a closer look at the kit in the rack though if at all possible :)

I'm getting nostalgic for the dust now. It won't be cleaned again until a piece of kit gets changed - which, since I've spent all my money on the stereo system, will be a very long time :lol:.

Not seen the earlier Oppo player previously of that fab looking Logitech transporter :stalks: Very nice looking bit of equipment indeed, I wonder why I haven't seen one before? :scratch:

Yes, the Sugden is a thing of brutalistic beauty. It's case is really over the top - a tank could roll over it and I'm sure it'd still work. It was just what I was after for a minimalist headphone system for the vinyl and FLACs, with the tape-out going on to the Onkyo.

The Transporter was always a bit of an anachronism in the Squeezebox lineup. Where everything else was priced at computer-peripheral prices, the TP was up there with the "audiophile" kit it was competing with. It benefitted from a better DAC and much better (on board) power supply. It also has digital inputs for other devices - long before they were fashionable. When Logitech bought out Slim Devices, the TP was never branded as a "Logitech" item and not really promoted. A slightly "cut down" one was made briefly - losing the "clever knob" - a feedback device that would stop at the end of, say, a scroll through album lists however long or short. TBH I've never used mine, though I do feel happy that I have a clever knob :eyebrows:

US company ModWright have made a niche market in modifying them (http://www.modwright.com/modifications/transporter-truth-mods.php) with glowing bottles.

When the TP was first made it was the only SB device to play 96kHz files. These days the server software allows all devices to play these files, and the Touch plays them natively. Even when you add a decent PS and DAC to the Touch you'd still have change from a Transporter, so I guess its no surprise its days were numbered. The twin displays - totally customisable - are still a nice touch (sic.) though . . .
