Recently went to a funeral of a dear friend
He knew his ilness was terminal and in the last months he compiled a cd to be played at the service,and had it timed that the final song was being played as he was going through the final curtain...very touching.
He was a guy with a great and weird sense of humour and recently his wife told me she re-recorded the cd and changed his final curtain song after listening to it.....it was the Beatles Help!!

My sense of humour entirely which is why I have also given strict instructions for this to played at my funeral too. Those instructions also state that the guys should be wearing Hawaiian shirts and absolutely nobody is to wear black, I want to go out with a smile :D

My choice is very straight-laced as I am, but true to my soul, I'd have a song from Mahler's Ruckertlieder, the translation being - I have become a stranger to the world. I'd now probably choose the Fischer Dieskau performance as it's sung so beautifully and from a male perspective :)

Don't know what the motive was ,maybe he couldn't give a stuff about his family being upset but ones final wishes are precisely that,final wishes,and not to be interfered with.
Personally I would choose some sort of nonsense like I'm walking backwards for Christmas.

I reckon Space 1999 could be successfully relaunched with an updated base plot, sympathetic writers and of course the sort of special effects that would do it justice today. Needless to say the title is obsolete even if the concept isn't.

All these sombre suggestions (Rameau, Barber, Albinoni) are all very well, if a little clichéd, however two more modern pieces played at the funerals of two friends of mine made quite a deep, and unexpected, impact on me (that is they had my normally 'stiff upper lip' clenched tight, lest I started to cry).
