For Sale - Thorens TD160B Mk II with SME 3009 and Russ Collinson Rosewood Plinth

For sale, an immaculate Thorens TD160B Mk II with SME 3009 arm. I think this is the "improved" SME 3009 but don't know how to identify it - anyone any ideas? It has the detachable headshell (boxed).

This deck has been serviced and runs beautifully. It is also housed in a solid Rosewood plinth hand made by Russ Collinson of Layers of Beauty http://www.layers-of-beauty.co.uk/

New belt fitted.

I would like to sell this deck whole and adding together the value of the components I would be looking for £500.

However, for £550 I will include a Stanton 681EEE cartridge with a genuine (I believe) replacement stylus that has just a few hours on it. Boxed and immaculate. Also box for SME headshell.

Good condition dust cover provided but I never got round to fitting hinges - did not want to drill into the lovely Rosewood plinth.

Damn! Looking at the asking price really does rub in the fact that I grossly under priced my TD 160/11, 3009 S2 imp, V15/2 when I let it go for £165! :steam: Albeit in a standard plinth.

Thanks Craig. Of course, it depends when you sold yours? I based my asking price on the current e-bay selling prices of arm, deck, condition,etc and price paid for plinth. Of course, I am open to offers.

I have several lovely old Lencos I should let go of too. However, I'd probably do better long-term if I stuck it all in the loft as I can only see prices rising more, particularly with a resurgence of interest in vinyl and the older decks having more charm :-)

Wish you'd put it in your main system downstairs, on a proper support (wall?) and with perhaps a valve-based phono stage to compliment the good ss one you use for the Lenco's... Just a suggestion like :)

Now reduced to £400 if anyone is interested. I guess the SME and cartridge is worth £300 so that seems a fair price considering the Rosewood plinth.

My wife would love me to sell all or most of my stuff. The techie is coming back in once the office is redecorated, the LS5/9's are now in daily use up there and I really don't know what's going to happen to the sitting room system, as I don't know when I'm going to have time to listen to it alone. Unlike you, I can't just sell on as the feeling takes me - I grow too attached to things I've put emotional effort into :(

That's not strictly the case. It is more of a reality check - what fits in with my domestic situation, etc. Yes, I have put emotional effort into a lot of the restored gear but all of it has gone to folk who I know will treasure it and that makes me happy.

At the end of the day, they are just "things".

I have also sold a lot of my vinyl recently and in many ways I actually feel liberated :)
