Hi everybody,
joined AoS a long time ago but did only read because at this time the flame war started from Dave Cawley was raging and I feared for my life! Nevertheless I got much very useful information from the threads.
My system consists of:
1.Technics 1210 (surprise!) with MN-bearing and MN-copper/aluminum-platter topped off with a Boston Audio mat 1 and a Kuzma ebony clamp, SME V arm (definitely NOT boring!) and an EMT JSD6. Phono cable is a Nordost Tyr. Power supply is (at the moment) a TS basic unit
2.Philips CD104 modified to filterless/NOS by Roman Groß
3.Sonos Zone player connected to a Metrum Octave DAC with RFC cables
4.Meridian FM 204 tuner
5.Nagra PLP preamp
6.Audioprojekte CA-10 power amp
7.QUAD ESL (57)
This setup gives me great pleasure (I use mine every night)

How wunderful, at last here is someone I can talk to in my native language. I was born in Vienna, where I spent a large part of my life. Eight years ago I moved to Tyrol, but until now I don't feel at home here.

Ein Wiener in Tirol wird immer ein Alien bleiben!
A viennese (from the Other Side of Austria) will always stay an Alien in the eyes of the tyroleans but its a beautiful land. I always stare in admiration at the Nordkette (a mountain massiv North of Innsbruck which is very attractive, especially in winter when the mountains are white and the sky is blue!) when I'm in Innsbruck. Hope you live in an attractive location Werner. At least Vienna is not so far away:)

Hello Michael, welcome to the forum :) My first ever CD spinner was a Philips 104, I remember it fondly - it was built like a Panzer tank & no kidding :lol:

Pleased to see you have finally crawled out from under the protective cover that you appear to have worn, I think you'll find things a good bit more civilised nowadays :D

Vienna is one of my favourite cities and I used to fly there on a regular basis as my wife is from not far from there.I still go to the christmas market there every year and used to buy a lot of Michaela Frey items as she was my wifes favourite designer.

Mmmm! - some choice items of gear you have there: EMT JSD6; SME V; Nagra PLP and Quad '57 speakers.

The Philips 104 was my first CD player. Over-engineered and expensive to manufacture, it was built like a tank and Philips made a loss on everyone they sold. I hope you allow yours to have plenty of ventilation. Owing the small case size, the component density was high and the soldered joints would fail if they got too hot.

Hi Michael and welcome to AoS. I too had a CD104 as my first player and I agree with Barry, it was very well made. The plastic things they followed up with were quite horrible in comparison.
