Hi,
My name is Russell Turner, aged a good solid 44 and have been into hifi seriously since the 1980's when I started earning money that could be spent on the cause, I live in the North West of England near sunny Blackburn and I am married with one daughter, current employ is being an IT engineer working for HP in the even more sunnier Lytham St Annes.
Began in the early days with Tannoy Mecurys (replaced with Celestion SL6S's), Cambridge amps, and a set of Quad II's with the Quad 22 pre-amp, I was an electronics engineer in those days so the Quads got the full treatment, silver plated cables, mil spec valves the works and then I swapped the lot for a Pioneer A400.
Don't ask me why.
Anyways I eventually settled on the A400 and the Celestions that had been the constant companion since I ditched the Tannoys.
Always used CD as a source from a very early Denon, then onto a Marantz CD85 II SE, which give up the cost after some fifteen or so years, oh yeh and the Pioneer A400 got replaced by a Marantz 6010 OSE.
Just recently getting back into Hifi, still got the Celestion SL6S's, replaced the Marantz with a Leema Acoustics Pulse Mark II and use a Squeezebox Touch with the Toolbox III loaded, the Interconnect is a bespoke Belden 89259 twisted affair I knocked up years ago and my speaker cables are the good 'ol rigid QED 25th Silver Anniversary ones (not the inferior modern ones).
I listen to FLAC files constantly (hate mp3) and the music I consume can be as diverse as Kate Bush, through to Orbital, Level 42, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Diana Krall, Genesis, basically if it is well produced and has good quality it will get an airing.
I try to listen to High Resolution files when I can and I am always keen to improve things where budget permits and the involvement isn't too much.
Another currentpassion I have had for quite some years is Landscape Photography (definedlight.com if your intrigued) and when I get the time and the motivation (not to mention weather) you can find me spending hours waiting for the Sun to set or rise.
