Hi all,

I think mine might be a familiar tale on here, I'm getting back into vinyl. Of the age when I grew up with it (mid 40's), have been noticing something missing in music and am eager to rekindle that fun (dont say mid life crisis! :lol: )

I thought I had bought a rega planar 2 off ebay last week but it fell through after the sale ended. Hmmmm! So now after a decent Planar 2. I already have a CA640P which I'm going to treat to the hypnotoad upgrades. Amp is an Arcam Alpha 10 and MS25i floorstanders. Planning a nice cartridge, OL counterweight and Michael Lim subplatter and dual pulley. Hoping that should be a well matched setup.

Music tastes are electric guitar stuff, so, rocky ac/dc and GnR stuff, through BB King, U2, Paul Weller and I have a large collection of Hendrix stuff that is partly responsible for this journey. Not into the modern dancey-dancey stuff but classic late 80s /early 90s stuff is cool.

I was attracted here by the friendly atmosphere and helpful nature of the posters, a great find

Have you you considered the Michell Technoweight?

I have had both, unfortunately not at the same time. I think i prefer the Technoweight as it has some advantages IMO.

Hi Alfa,

We share more than you imagine, as I used to have an Alfa GTV (1983 vintage I think)! The throttle cable end was held onto the arm on the carb with a bent paperclip is just one of my memories of that car!

Yeah had considered that one too, and it seems a popular choice, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that in a side by side test, the OL had the edge. As with all things hi-fi, you really have to just try it out I guess. They both have their fans.

Welcome to aos...I have found lots of help on here from a very nice(mostly) bunch...Im in London too...
Rega p2?...been there...done that...but still wasnt happy and ended up with something different....keep options open for now I would say to save you spending more money later
