Yes, we get some nice vintage kit on occasion. you may notice a couple of amps from Akai R to R decks that Steve uses when he goes to his caravan (the decks were beyond repair)

Yes, it's always a good weekend, the social aspect being as much fun as the kit.

Some great homebrew stuff there, certainly not for the faint hearted or those with an inquisitve bent with some of the bread board amps lots of live bits exposed and easy to get a belt off :D

My Loftin amp is very much the same and a work in progrees at the moment, i have to remember not to let my arm get to close to the unprotected parts when switching off and on :eek:

thats a fair point with some of the breadboard builds,they dont get played when its busy.. saved untill much later when there is just a few about... much safer...

it was another really good meet, again some really good sounds and some very unusual equipment. very enjoyable..... but you can see that by the photos.

My latest speakers went down very well, they look like boxes but are a ported open baffle H frame... mated with lowther ex4, both the quality and extension of the bass was good, the bass was seemless with the lowther too, all running of a couple of watts of px25 SE in that big room,

Yes mate, the standard of kit has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. The kit is sounding so good now, I don't think there is much more to come, from the amps at least. We'll have to see what the future brings in file audio to find any more jumps in performance, otherwise it's incremental changes and differences rather than obvious improvements. There are lots of different speaker designs too, all sounding good in their own ways. That's the good thing about these meets, the variety of kit brought, you can always find something to like.

marco, these speakers where just made for our meets, the vitavox horn based open baffles are still the every day speakers.

they where an experiment to see if i could get more bass from 2 x12" drivers per side , in the past i've had a job getting the volume in the bass to match the lowther correctly, so i've done a couple of things, firstly fitting a front port , then giving it some length, hoping to get a sort of pistonic effect with the front output, to help with cancelation.
It all sounds quite unlikley i know, but it seems to have worked well, I have helped things by fitting the most powerfull drivers i had.

The bass is at the quality or better than the lowther is higher up, and counteracts the rising response quite nicely, along with a few other tricks.. and at the same sort of efficiency,

all this without any of the ported box sounds..
I think its a good result...
