Turntable Desire

I have very few LPs and a gazillion CDs ripped into a file based audio system which I'm happy with, but for some reason, I want a TT. In fact, I have one, a Rega Planar 2, but I have nowhere to put it.

It's not about SQ, it's more about the looks and the physicality of it. I'm still blown away by how a TT works to be honest. Maybe it's a romantic notion, I don't know.

Maybe one day when the kids are older and I have a bit more expendable cash I will be able to have a TT setup.

Hmmm, I could possibly squeeze it into a corner on a small ikea Lack side table. I've heard these are quite good for some hifi gear.

Got my turntable set up on a lack table today, definitely big improvement over putting it on my pre-amp, bargain for the money.

I've seen target wall shelves and the like knocking around on Gum Tree etc for a lot less than that.

plus 1 , find or even better make space for it , spend some time setting it up and sit back and enjoy , i actually stole the units the telly was on and wall mounted the telly , but be warned vinyl can be adictive

Well, it occurred to me today that it's highly unlikely that I'm gonna get the Rega out, set it up and play records. It's more of a fantasy (that wouldn't last long in actual reality) than a reality.

Besides, I have a huge collection of digital music and I don't yet have a dedicated DAC for it. Perhaps I could stump up some cash for a DAC with the sale of the Rega deck and Mini Fono?

Yeah, I know it's fairly pointless, but at the beginning I had some thoughts I wanted to air and now, I've come to a conclusion.

It's only a few 1s and 0s in the end*

Rega 2's, even knackered old ones, seem to fetch good money these days. if there's no way you're going to want to mess around with vinyl, then selling the Rega and getting a good DAC would definitely be the best way to go. Should you find the itch is still there, there's loads of cheap Thorens TD160's around and about and although they may have been got at by enthusiasts in the intervening decades, they're fairly easily bodged up to work properly and can sound really good with the right cartridge fitted (V15 SAS for later ones and M97XE for older examples?)..

Thanks Dave. That's what I figured; if I want vinyl later in life, then I can just go buy a TT.

My Rega is in great nick actually and it has the RB250 arm I beleive.
