I recently bought Simon Rattle's CD of Bruckner 9th, which has a completed 4th movement. I ripped this to hard drive using iTunes as normal.
Today I tried to play it via my SB3 Squeezebox, which I control using both iPeng and Squeezepad. Since the last movement is the one which is clearly of interest I tried that first. No sound!
I thought maybe it was a very quiet track, but I could not get it to play and produce audible output.
I thought I'd check some of the other tracks - no problem. Coming back to this last movement track I kept getting the same result.
OK - so I thought maybe the ripping didn't go well, and was about to delete it from my hard drive and rip again, but before I did that I decided to check by playing the tracks on my iMac. Using iTunes there is absolutely no problem when playing directly from my iMac, and apart from a slightly quiet opening, there is enough sufficiently loud music for this to be obvious.
I don't know if this is a temporary glitch or not - though currently it does seem to be solid on the SB3. I'll probably stick with my original plan, and rip the CD again. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Maybe there's a TOC or other file which has been corrupted and the SB3 can't pick it up. I think it does find the track details - just doesn't produce any sound!
Before I hit the Submit button on this post, I thought I'd try one more thing. I opened up SqueezePlay (the Logitech player) on the iMac, and tried to play from there. When I try to play the last track I get a "Problem: Can't open file ..." message, so it does looks as though there is something wrong with the final track. The other tracks are fine. I guess my solution of re-ripping that is the way to go, but I've not knowingly had this problem before.
