Hello!

I've been interested in music and then Hi-Fi (a term unknown when I was a kid) starting in the early 50s listening to 78s on my Dad's radiogram...lots of Spike Jones and his City Slickers deeply etched into my psyche :).

I got my first stereo in the early-mid 70s and have very gradually built up a system which meets nearly all of my listening criteria. Only limitations are the room and the neighbours (I live in a mid terraced "little box" as so eloquently described by Pete Seeger).

I must confess that I have a slightly altruistic reason for "arriving" here which may lead to my immediate expulsion. I have somewhere near an hundred and fifty mid 70s to mid 80s Hi-fi magazines - mainly HiFi News and Record Review but including HiFi Answers, HiFi for Pleasure, Popular HiFi (plus a few Wireless World and Gramophone) which I want to give away rather than throw away. I thought somebody here might be interested in them.

Music tastes range very widely - alphabetically from ABBA to Zappa and musically from Zeppelin and UFO to Joan Baez and Blind Willie McTell. Not too keen on House, Rap nor Garage and particularly dislike anybody who doesn't have the talent to perform live in front of a band or with their own instrument(s). Karaoke should be for pubs not concert venues and miming - sorry "lip synching" - should be advertised on the tickets so that nobody wastes their money.

I only bought a CD/SACD/DVD player when Led Zeppelin's "How the West Was Won" came out as I didn't think it would be available on vinyl.

I'm proud to be a bit of a Luddite with no mobile 'phone, MP3 player, earbuds, etc.

I'm just the normal run-of-the mill grumpy old lugger (who sometimes can't spell) :laugh:

If I was you I'd get a post up in "private exhibitions" :) Yes lots do read the welcome threads & you are bound to get more replies, but I have a feeling that if you advertise them on a seperate thread a lot more people will see them & you are likely to get some room back a bit quicker :eyebrows:

Try & get your post count up a bit as well, you won't be able to receive or reply/make private messages until you have five posts ;)

"Fun"...yes, I think I can remember that :)

To tell the truth I have a wonderful wife and some great mates who are all interested in music and HiFi...beer as well so we sit in the area of our local which we've christened "Grumpy Corner" and spend Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons generally taking the persistence out of each other. We're all also members of CAMRA so we can moan about the beer with impunity (not that we need to as it's a cracking standard but we have our reputations to uphold).

Most of us also cycle so, if we get fed up with taking the rise out of the denizens of our little pub, we bike somewhere else and do the same.

Life is sweet.

Well well, what is it with cycling and beer. In the 70s my bible was the CAMRA guide, plus the additional small specialised guides. How much beer did I drink then:eek::mental:I think me and my B in Law who sadly passed away many years ago at 37 (and no it wasn't the beer!) visited every real ale pub within a 30 mile radius of Haslemere. Of course days out were always tied in with a visit to a CAMRA pub:lol:

I love cycling as well. Did a couple of hours today in the glorious Sussex countryside. As if being a Postie isn't enough.

I do still like beer, but my beer gut is looooong gone so you would never know the excesses of my younger days:cool:
