Hi everyone,
My given name is Paul but I was a big fan, and still am to a degree, of Eagle THE original boys comic:), Dan/Digby and the Mekon being most favoured.
A Londoner by birth, now reside (with her indoors) in Bedfordshire.
Apart from good music, good music being that ''sense of being there'' I'm perhaps more heavily into fishing than is good for me, but when she gave me the choice of golf or fishing.....well the rest is history.
Ok, what do I listen on, for many years it was a rented Pye Black Box, but I used to listen to a system at a dealers house (not a Hi Fi dealer:lol:) that consisted of Cambridge Transmission line speakers, Thorens TD150 (?) which I remember Terry, ever boastful, saying he'd paid £27 for (circa 1973), cannot remember the amp used, just how fantastic Hendrix, Starship, Doors, Beefheart etc etc etc sounded.
Could'nt understand why my Black Box, back at my bedsit, sounded like a rather loud transistor radio, rather than a room filling music system, no matter how loud I had it.
Scroll on to 1978, I'd met and married a good woman who'd sorted me out, probably saved my life as well, and I, and my sisters, aquired some unexpected funds from a long lost family member, and as I'd always promised myself a decent set up when funds permitted i purchased :-
An original Dunlop Sytemdek, an RB250, and shure cart, Kef 104AB speakers and got a good deal, ex demo kit, from the then well respected Quantum Electronics of Leicester nameley their 102 switching, 402 Pre Amp and a pair of 205D Mono blocks and QED 79 strand.
I have paper work and specs pertaining to this equipment, have the 102, the 402 and I think only 1 of the 205D's, dont ask:steam:. insurance jobbie, the blown amp never came back, also have the Kefs:), all in the loft:rolleyes:
Current system upgraded 3 years ago when I was given a golden hand shake after 41 years of faithful service consists of :-
The original Systemdek however I do change drive belt and oil every couple of years and check/reset the suspension, Rega RB300 and Denon MC cart, Quad 22L2 floor standers, Bi amped with Quad 909 Stereo amps, not mono blocks, QED Silver Anniversary cables, Quad Pre Amp and Quad CD player.
What does it sound like, my daudgters partner when he heard it said ''F*****G Hell'', he runs a a later Systemdek, VERY expensive B&W speakers with a very beefy Nad amp, not heard his system but after an hour listening to mine when I first got it he said it was time for an upgrade.
Misic wise very broad tastes Soul Music inc 60T's, Northern(my major love), House, Opera, Rock still have all my albums from the mispent 70t's Hendrix, Starship etc etc last album I bought from a junk shop was a pristine copy of Trick of the Tale - Genesis.
My collection inc over 300 LP's, 150 odd CD's, mainly Northern Soul compilations and appx 700 7 inch singles.
