I do like that turntable idea though, as Rega parts aren't expensive, last well and can be easily put into a plinth idea such as this. Not sure of you're interested, but the RP6? has a dual mass glass top platter and may just be available as a spare and possible upgrade on the stock article?

The P3 table, plinth and all sits in a cavity on its stock feet. The cavity sports a 2cm granite slab sitting on a 1/4" neoprene sheet. The custom plinth sits on 4 sorbothane feet (Pangea) that in turn sit atop hockey pucks. The whole thing weighs in at about 60# and is dead inert. The bass is noticeable tighter and quite frankly the entire musical picture is improved. I designed the plinth and had it made by our Amish cabinet maker then painted by a local luthier.

Oh man, properly designed bass reflex speakers :D None of your pissy little ports, you need as big a port as possible to lower air speed & reduce turbulence to virtually nothing :)

Well gentlemen, thanks for the thoughtful comments (with the exception of Jerry's all-things-red aversion :)) Those speakers are Von Schweikert VR5 Anniversaries. I have heard lots of very good, very expensive speakers, Magico included, and have yet to hear anything that better these. Plus I believe I've hit on a very special synergy between VSAs and my MAC electronics. I still get the occasional upgrade itch but the reality of what I've got going on here sits in and and the itch subsides. Bottom line, when you sit in the Cap'n Kirk chair it's hard to wipe the smile off your face.
