Introduction

Hello,
I am Shutdown98, some people call me Remco too.
For years i have been an audio-lover and have had a constant eye for better reproduction of beautiful music over the years.
But a man has to earn the gear and that is often taming the speed of new buys and investments :-)
On the other hand it has made me eager to start building a subwoofer and later on a pair of very nice speakers a few years back because the price/performance of DIY is (can be) very high. That has lifted the quality of my sound system enormous. At that point there (obviously) were new weakest parts i could upgrade or replace (isn't that recognisable?).
After that it was time for a new amp (Bryston B60 SST) and i traded in the laptop for a SBT touch. The last upgrade was a remodelling of the crossover layout, adding Vishay bypass caps and replacing the mox resistors with better ones for my speakers. Did a very nice job indeed!
Anyway, at this point there is little money but as always there is the fun of looking and searching for new audio opportunities, and in that search i found AoS. I participated allready in 2010 but at this time i posted my first post (and got the first post police on my back). You are reading the result.

Remco is the real name (from the Netherlands, so that explains it i guess)
I am from the year '68, so the music from the eighties i will never get rid of. At that time i was a Cure and U2 guy.
At this point (as the hairs are fading and slowly turning grey) i like singer/songwriters very much.
A good night of music can lead me through (random order) Supertramp, Damian Rice, Lisa Hannigan, Diana Krall, Sting, Ben Howard, Turin Brakes, John Allan, Selah Sue, Train and many others

Hi Remco, welcome to AoS from me as well :) I see from your signature that you have a real subwoofer, not some pretender :eyebrows:

Any chance of some system pictures being placed into the gallery, I for one would love to have a look at your kit (definately the Adire) :cool:

I do have a real Sub!
Allthough some say a 12" is the starting point of having a taste of real bass i am very pleased with it.
I will post some pics.
At first i made the sub according to the Adire drawings with 18mm mdf. The bass was huge and trembling. After a couple of years i wanted to tame the bass because it was not very defined. So i reinforced the cabinet with 2cm concrete. All walls (exept the front) are now 18mm mdf with 2cm concrete. The bass has been very much improved, tight, detailed and controlled.
I do break my back trying to move it.

It may only be a 12" driver, but it no doubt has an XBL² motor & one hell of a lot of excursion, which will make up for it's lack of size :eyebrows:
