image taken from another forum of the lp12 i've just bought as i havnt taken delivery as yet, hope lefty dont mind! :eyebrows: :)

the hadcock is going on the second arm board on the nas, and the carts for it i have shortlisted so far are the ortofon 2m black, the lyra dorian or the at oc9. need to try them before tho!

the lp12 is going to be used with the tube tech phono pre, and the nas as is with the 834p/mc3.

cheers Marco! been reading up on the denon sa you have, how different over the r is it? seems to be a very good cart. i'd love to try the 301, but iirc, you cant get them in blighty.

What's your first name, mate? We're all on first name terms here :)

The improved body shell material sorts out most of the 103s 'problems', for starters, so there's no need to 'nude' it anymore to get the benefits of removing the body shell. Also, SAs are specially selected from the production run of 103Rs as having the closest matched electrical specifications (left and right channel output in millivolts, etc).

What does that translate into in terms of sound? - A superior stereo image, a clearer, sweeter top-end, better fine detail retrieval, more open sounding midrange and a tighter, punchier bass.

Most importantly, of course, this results in you listening to more records than ever before! It also looks rather nice inside a headshell, as you can see from my avatar :smoking:

Basically, it's a no-brainer. Ian Harrison in Derby is selling them now for £385, so if you can afford it go for it :gig:

cheers Marco, the names Al btw :)
been looking at them, as i really rate ALL the denons, very good carts (despite what some of the hifi pressage think o them!) i've never come across a duff tracker in the denon range, and even the lowly priced 110 is a corker, embarass many a more exotic cart imo. :)

Too right they do, Al. I've used them since the early 80s, along with some pretty exotic cartridges in the years I've been into 'serious' hi-fi, and in terms of sound-per-pound value they're quite incredible.

The 103s though need quite a lot of 'attention' in terms of partnering equipment and ancillaries to hear them at anything like their best.

Marco.

P.S can you do me a favour and add 'Al' to your signature so that everyone else knows from reading your posts what your name is? Cheers!

Hello A.N

Nice toys! My compliments .. I love tubes!
Could you tell me your opinion about the Acromat? .. and how many millimeters is thick?

thanks in advance ..

hi there, the achromat is 5mm thick. the reason i used it on the heavy kit instead of just the bare platter is because i didnt want to chance scratching my records. it doesnt make much a difference with sound with it either on nor off, as the heavy kit is very "dead" anyway.
the lp12 i've just bought came with an achromat anyway (again 5mm), and i did use on on my old lp12 and it took all the ringing out of the platter, made the background more "black" and let more detail through. worthwhile investment definately on the lp12.
cheers, Al :)

Thanks A.N ... uhmm interesting those 5mm. thickness maybe I need them to raise my platter and I could use my loved Denon DL103R that's so short (15mm.)
