A quick hello

Hi,

just to say hello to all you guys in the forum. Not very used in writting in forums so if miss something (rules etc) please feel free to correct me.
Very interested in some of the DIY threads and anything around turntables. I don't have much to show off other than a small experience in playing around and modifying my Technics and Regas. However, this little knowledge I have I'll share with anyone.

Thank you all guys for the welcome.
I do not have a permenebt set-up. Everything is "work in progreess" all the time. Well, here's are my "sources".
First, my old love, my SL-1200s. All of them bought in a state of “rubbish”, (but nothing's ever rubbish) and done up. Just a few changes on them; for the looks, their top plates refinished in mat black and all the lights changed to purple ones, They all now have free pitch controls without the quartz lock and working on removing their transformer and ps off-board. On one of them I have fitted a new Technics arm (the bearings of the old one were quite damaged). The armtube has been replaced with a straight carbon fiber one (no detachable headshell) foam-filled and wired with some silver Litz I had spare from some other job. The phonos are a pair of Mogami mic cables which I will be replacing soon with a locally bought silver cable, hardwired directly on the torearm wires (bypassing the PCB). Other than that, the old feet have been replaced with some sorbothane that make a nice addition for very little money.
On the rest of the 1200s I use Rega arms (RB250 and RB300). I have 5-6 of them and each has been rewired differently, the old stubs and counterweights have been changed on the RB250s with origin live, Technoweight ones. So this gives me the chance to play around with different versions. The armboards are stainless steel custom cut (similar design to the origin live ones) and I do not use any VTA mechanism other than spacers. I am very happy with these budget Regas (especially the 250s). I wouldn't consider them “audiophile” in any way but with a nice mm cart they are adorable when used for dance music and any bass focused genre.
Then I have some other turntable set-ups. They all started with the idea of building my own record player from spares and custom cut parts. After many interesting attempts I ended up with a few simple structures and all of them combining stand alone motors, arms and platers. A vibration free and very flexible indeed solution. I often use three arms with different set-ups on the same platter with no need to move things around.
There is nothing fancy about all of the above. Nothing is really hi-end, but they just get a bit better each day. All parts have been bought used and costed very little, and most of all they give me great pleasure playing around with them. Half of the time everything is a just a mess and I cannot even play a record, but the rest of the time its all nice and settled and they all serve their purpose;: me to enjoy my music.

Well, at the moment its all at the first state; a mess!
