Been putting this off!

Being a bit on the anti-social side I'm not really one for joining things. Having said that, I did join another forum earlier in the year to reply to a posting I saw. Have to say though, it does seem a bit. . . er. . . cold. Recently I've been on my death bed with the man flu (so much more deadlier than the woman strain) and I found myself here for a bit of distraction. It seems quite friendly, with varying activity and I like the humour.

Not sure if I might just be considered a lurker, however. Don't like to prattle-on unless I know what I'm talking about. Also find it hard to relate to much in the audio world now, especially the marketplace. A £500 mc cartridge is now considered affordable and a £150 arm lead a bargin. Perhaps for the majority of people that is the case, but sadly not for me. Simple question of economics.

If I'm being honest I would be grateful for some help regarding some Audio Technica ATH-7 headphones. I'm not looking to buy or sell a pair just to find someone who has a pair. Won't bore you with the story right now.

Musical tastes cover classic rock & pop, Motown, easy listening, soundtracks, blues, country, folk, jazz and some classical. Favourite album in recent years is A Girl Called Eddy's self-titled album. If you like female vocals - just buy it! Have a look on youtube for "Somebody Hurt You", "Tears All Over Town" and "People How Used To Dream About The Future". The audio streams are just mono though. You can still get it on lp from Ebay and Amazon for about £20. A bit cheaper from Amazon in Germany.

Favourite album last year Ray Lamontagne & The Pariah Dogs "God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise". Great tunes and great sound! Mastered by legend Bob Ludwig. Available as a nice gatefold edition. Also as a double lp, although there's only 10 tracks! It's about £21. Again, just buy it. Check youtube for "God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise" (Thumbnail has 3 children) and "Beg, Steal Or Borrow". Only access to internet is with my mobile and I can't copy and paste links and I'm not sure if I can do it with the youtube link here. It's a cracking album (Grommit). Honest!

Favourite tune of last year was Silas Bjerregaard's (who?) "You Know Me". Go to TVADMUSIC.CO.UK and search for "Pandora". It's available as a free download - or it was. Think he's Danish.

Time for some Earl Grey and battenburgh I think.

You may think that there are lots of people willing to lash out on cables costing that much money, however, I'm not one of them.. I'd say welcome to the real world, but I guess it's all real depending on your circumstances :eyebrows:

Thanks for the music suggestions - I'm not familiar with some of them (and will check those out asap), but agree on the Ray LaMontagne album - it's a cracker and is on the list for a vinyl purchase when I have the funds.

Looking on Ebay just now found the Ray L. double lp for just £15.47 new with free post from USA. Seller is all_your_music (3575). It's the cheapest I've seen it. The A Girl Called Eddy lp is available from a German seller for £17.50 with free post.

Welcome from another North East Member, theres a couple of other members in your neck of the woods... just beware of them, shady characters always looking for a trade or something :eyebrows: Just kidding, its a friendly place and all the exchanges I've had on here have been positive and helpful.

The thing which led me to AoS in the first place was the level headedness of many of the members, here were guys getting amazing results from refurbed second hand speakers, modding old turntables/budget dacs and discovering amazing new tweaks and cables which put expensive gear to shame. In other words my kind of place.
