Interconnects?

I am still in the process of building up my system & an reasonably happy with it, the ultimate will get there!
todays question is :-
1) what digital interconnects do people recommend & does it make any difference?
2) what analogue interconnects do people recommend (i know they make a difference.)?:D

+1 on Mark Grant.
I use his cables extensively during products R&D. You can buy the "standard" range or let him know what your primary performance requirements are for each type of cable, so that he can pick the appropriate connectors and leads that are the closest match to what you need. Cost a bit more, but it was worth it to me.

Just a thought on analogue interconnects from me. This is purely based on my experiences in my system (and selling Rega) and obviously, your experiences may be different..

The Mark Grant HD1000 is a fantastic allround cable and the Canare plugs, for whatever reason (capacitance?) give a "comfortable" overall quality within the high resolution available. I like it a lot. The HD1500 with Neutrik Pro plugs, and I suspect the HD2000 models too, can sound a bit lean and stripped out if the source unit lacks the power and drive of "better" components. All highly debatable, but just my current gut feelings, using the HD1500's from pre to power.. The 1500 just lets through what's there in the source, that's all, but with cheaper gear, this may sound a little "ungracious" perhaps.

- should also offer a great sound and my home-made version sounds great to me. Like the HD1000, there's no loss whatever of musical details, but the balance is slightly meatier and with a "quieter" treble end which suits my headphone amp superbly. Klotz are happy to publish specs of all their wires and Rega use it in the identical "Couple" interconnect, which sells for around £100 now through their dealer network (and is used in the design of their electronics). Pros love Klotz cable too and it's available off the drum by the metre from Studiospares..

These differences are very small indeed and only for us "anal" types who really need to get a life :rofl: but there you are...

As for digital interconnects, I'm a cheapskate and have great results with the best satellite coax I could find (double copper screening and solid centre copper core) and with standard neutrik phono plugs welded on using low melting-point solder. Works for me, but Stan sells some good looking optical and coax ones himself I think...

My fav interconnect at the mo is a pair of Blue Jeans Cable 'LC-1' Low Capacitance Audio Cable (12.2 pF/ft, which would be no probs on long runs)..I got from Marco, they are better than the very expensive Interconnect they replaced (Which will remain nameless).. I want some more of these interconnects but can't seem to locate them in the UK!

I like the Mark Grant HD1000, they are clearly better than the cheaper LV61S in a side by side, the LV61S is decent though.

Another cheapie which can sound good in the right circumstances is the (don't laugh) Van Damme 268-500-000 Twin Interconnect.

Got to say the Mark Grant's G2000HD. Try them and if they don't suit, return them. But I don't think you will. :D

What's the budget for each cable?
Best to decide how much you want to spend and try to stick to it and listen to a few.

I'd echo what Mark has already said. Think of a budget and stick to it. I'm sure that either Mark or myself would only be too happy to custom make anything you'd like to any budget. I have just launched a new budget cable which really gives the Fidelity IO (http://referencefidelitycomponents.co.uk/products/fidelity-series/fidelity-io/) (Klotz cable and Rega Profi connectors) a run for it's money for half the price. It's called the Fidelity Europa (http://referencefidelitycomponents.co.uk/products/fidelity-series/fidelity-europa/)and has received some great initial reviews. At around £40 per 1m pair, it may be all you need. Happy to send you a set for review. I don't buy in ready made cables, all IC's are custom made, as with Mark's cables.
