View Full Version : The New Harbeth 30.1
Well yes, it seems that the new model is to be a 30.1 but there is as yet little known and Google tells me not a lot.
What does anyone know?

Only that it has a new Radial cone bass/mid driver, a re-worked crossover and the tweeter from the M40.1. Price is £2399, delivery early June and I have my pair on order..:)

We will all have to patient then, till the Harbeth publicity comes out.
Add a Rega Brio R and you'll have a proper little system of great pleasure giving qualities.
Be very interesting to see how they sound against the SHL5s... :)
The bass extension of the present 30 and the SHL5 don't look that different on paper. How different do the sound?

Apart from the all important mid-band, very different.
Yeah, the 30's and SHL5's are rather different in bass extension, the 30 sounding a little "truncated" low down as the previous LS5/9 does, which is fine for some rooms. The slight narrowband forwardness in the upper mid of my 5/9's is banished in the 30's and as Dave says, the midband is to die for, smooth but so open. Now the Beeb is using those horrid little Dynaudio actives (which may have been replaced with new models by now without the 5kHz "glare") in many of their environments, some detailed work on the 30's may well be in order, as has already been done on the cabs, which don't sound at all wardrobey as my old Spendors do..
