Hi, any advice on whether I'd get a better return on either a funk firm achromat or a new acrylic platter for my Systemdek....both get good reviews but I don't think i need both.
Thanks
John

Doesn't this deck live on as an an deck, with acrylic platter? An external motor power supply/transformer may be worth looking out for as well..

Out of the two, l would go for the Acrylic platter, as the Systemdek was designed for it, would look neater too, l know of no one who has put an Anchromat on a Systemdek............but someone probably has somewhere.

I prefer the original glass platter to the acrylic although there is not much in it, not sure I would bother splashing cash on either upgrade.

Thanks David.....what external PSU is it worth looking at for the Systemdek? (taking into account that I'm a techno f***wit)

I am sure there was a version of your deck that came with an external power supply. I would guess the Project Speedbox should work but you should verify with one of the technical experts. Years ago I heard the acrylic platter version of the deck and it gave a very impressive sound. To be honest with a good arm I'm sure it could run an LP12 pretty close.

I though the IIXE was the version with an external PSU but I could easily be wrong! Way back I connected a Valhalla (sourced from YNWaN) to my Systemdek, it works well to this day in my brother-in-law's system. At the time I spoke with Dunlop, they said they were surprised it worked, something to do with their motor being series (or //) connected, the opposite to the LP12. I didn't pay much attention as it works.

I think you're correct!

There was no such thing as a IIXE it was called IIX electronic. From pictures on Vinyl Engine there is a black strip on the front of the top plate on the electronic. There was also a Systemdek IV with the same electronic supply. I have never seen one but remember it from the old Hi-fi Choice Turntable reviews. The 900 was a later version the difference of which was never clear to me except I think the armboard was rectangular. I assume John's is a IIX.

'IIX' has a pear shaped armboard the 'IIX900' Rectangular The 'IIXE900' had a power supply.

Paul is correct the deck is a Systemdek IIX900.....the E was a mis-type!.....

Thanks for the suggestions on PSU......I'll investigate the two suggestions further. Are they easy to fit or do I need to bring in someone who an wield a soldering-iron etc?

Cheers
John

Sorry for a potentially stupid questin, but were Systemdek's sold new with Linn tonearms?
Oris this an after market mod?
Great sounding tables though!

I think the LVX and/or LVX+ were an option for a while (but not on the same deck, obviously!).

I'm the second owner of my Systemdek but I understood from the bloke I bought it from that they were shipped from Systemdek without arms and it was up to the dealer to partner them up. I've seen a '900 with an RB 250 on it for instance.

You see the odd one with a 'Systemdek' arm - a jelco variation on the 774LC I think.

I used a Hercules II with one of my IIX900's for a while, put it in a box with a long lead to the motor rather than in the plinth, and was very pleased with the outcome. The new simple Mose psu would go very nicely too I reckon.
