Wholesale change continues at Chateau Montesquieu ....

Parting with my Audion 300b Silver Night monoblocks, 24w push-pull. I owned these originally about five years ago and since then they've done the rounds of the forums powering anything from horn systems to Tannoy DCs, for which they are particularly suited. The came back to me after a part-swop with Robin for a VAC PA60.

Recently serviced by John Caswell and since I got back from holiday last week I've also fitted a matched quad of EH Gold Grids, about £300 worth.

These Audion amps give a lovely combination of push-pull grunt and 300b delicacy and charm, for speakers that don't quite sound their best with single ended amps (need a stronger damping factor and more grunt), but where finesse is still an important requirement.

I had two sets pairs of these monoblocks for use with my active Tannoy crossover, the older of the two (in silver) was recently sold, these are slightly later, but as with the silver set, point to point silver wired in the amp section, with chunky output transformers and very nicely made. The gold finish is in very good order (unlike this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130658513872?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2 Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570.l1313 %26_nkw%3D130658513872%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1) pair on ebay recently which still made £1500).

I am being more modest in my ambitions but since I've just fitted the Gold Grids I need to ask more than for the other pair, so looking for £1200. I have the original boxes but would rather not ship (it's three boxes anyway, one for each monoblock plus another box for the tubes) so collection from here in Berkshire or happy with a drive to meet up somewhere. I will include assorted other 300b tubes as spares but these should not be needed for a very long time.

New equivalent would be the point to point wired Audion Silver Knight MkII at over £4000.

Bit of buzz on 'another forum' that these are also very well suited for LVs with several happy owners chiming in ... just thought I'd mention.

On reflection I've decided to put this sale on hold ... on a realistic budget (even on a not so realistic budget) I'm not going to be able to do better with my Tannoy GRFs. So I'm going to hang onto them until I definitely know whether I can keep the Tannoys. If the Tannoys turn out to be a casualty of the impending house move I'll revisit the post.

To those who made enquiries ... watch this space.

What kind of power supply do these have? ;)

Solid state PSU built around a large toroidal mains transformer.

Border Patrol do external upgrade PSUs for these if you were so minded, though there is a train of thought that good as they are, BP PSUs have a habit of making everything sound the same - so you better be sure you like what they do! I see no need.
