Hi to all. Joined up last night and this is my first post. I come from a long engineering background (not audio) and I'm an old Hi-Fi buff who was fortunate enough to be born with 'golden ears'. I can tell what sounds right (to me) and have good knowledge of much so called "Classic" gear. My preferences for use are valve and good solid state Class A amplification, along with Tannoy speakers. I use CD (Meridian and others) and also vinyl. I like well sorted Mission 774 arms with ZYX cartridges. Currently used on a very heavy Toshiba SR-370 D/D turntable. Music tastes are anything interesting, played well! As a hobby, I have rebuilt and refurbished much Hi-Fi equipment, too much to list. I also design and build loudspeaker systems. Some of you may suspect you know me already from various Hi-Fi related situations. I'm always willing to give opinions/advice and may also sometimes seek the same. Best Hi-Fi motto: rely on your ears, not your wallet. Its all about enjoyment, not prestige. Regards, Walpurgis.

Hello Puffin, thanks for the welcome. Is there still much interest here in vintage vinyl gear? Its always fascinated me, as there is so much variation in the sound and ability of each component. i.e. cartridges/arms/turntables etc. Cheers, Walpurgis.

My goodness Rob, an SP25 Mk.II? They are like gold dust now (may be just as well). Had an SP25 Mk. IV myself. Dreadful device, I soon moved on to a Thorens TD150 with Decca International arm and ADC 10E Mk.IV cartridge. That would sound good even today. I still have a collection of ADC cartridges as in my view they were the best non M/C types of all. Cheers, Walpurgis (Geoff).
