Ive recently changed my balanced I/C to a VDH XLR cable, I am very impressed with this cable and for the money I paid for it a complete bargain!

I currently use Chord epic speaker cables and out of curiosity would it be worth changing them to VDH the wind or another type of VDH speaker cable.

Any thoughts much appreciated

Lee

Hi Lee,

I would say a firm 'YES', as I use VDH 'The Wind', very successfully, and it sounds way better than any Chord speaker cable I've used (and I've had plenty).

The VDH is cleverly designed and its construction successfully addresses some important sonic issues with speaker cables. It will likely also marry well with your XLR cable, producing the sonic synergy which is so important in a hi-fi system.

My advice? Get the VDH bought, toute-suite, and start grinning like a Cheshire cat, when you hit the 'play' button! :)

Hi Marco

I will see if there are any VDH dealers that have a loan set for me to try with a view to buying some, they do appeal to me though

No worries... I think you'll struggle with that, however, as it's not a cable that's sold in any great quantities, so you'll probably find that it'll be special order only.

Let me know how you get on, though :)

Might as well check out the Wind's "step-brother", the Breeze. I think they are similarly priced (roughly at least) and I've heard really good things about it.

I spoke to a dealer yesterday and explained that I had the D102 MK III interconnect, he commented that the Wind would not be compatible with this I/C and should look at an alternative, from memory I think he said Bridge but cant be 100% sure. He did say that the Chrod Epic was a very good cable and wondered why I wanted to change it!

I guess at times with this game we all get the curiosity vibe!!

Entirely out of curiosity, but why isn't the Wind compatible with the D-102?

Let me see if I have this straight... Someone told you that a speaker cable wasn't compatable with an interconnect? :mental:

If anyone ever gave me that kind of information I think I'd go elsewhere...

Help, HELP!!! My CD player isn't compatable with my amplifier :eyebrows:

Yes, utter nonsense! Lee, your dealer (to put politely) is daftee

You should've asked him not "compatible" in exactly what way? I'd love to have heard his answer!! :D

It's more like he'd rather sell you what he's got in stock, than order something in special...... If I were you, though, I'd just bite the bullet and get some, as The Wind is indeed very good speaker cable.

I got mine (as a special order) on-line from Futureshop: http://www.futureshop.co.uk/index.php

It arrived, chez-moi, within 5 days

+1 - I can back this up too. A very good cable indeed.

Don't listen to sales cack, he's bound to try and sell you something he has that he want's to move on...

Personally though I found Futureshop bloody awful, maybe Marco spoke with someone with more than one brain cell. I called them and got an utter plebb on the phone who didn't know his arse from his elbow... I ended up putting the blower down on him, very frustrating indeed.

They probably have loads of sales assistants, Joe, so I guess it depends on who you get. The guy I spoke with was really on the ball, and I received faultless service. I've used Futureshop on a couple of occasions.

Btw, on checking, it looks like they've got some stock of 'The Wind':

Go on, Lee - treat yourself! :)

That's what I thought, Marco...

I'll give them another go later on.

Definitely a superb cable...

Cheers guys, kind of made my mind up, Im gonna get some VDH cables, still not sure the wind is the one for me as Totem recommend bi-wire for the best results, but the next cables I get will be VDH for sure

i really like vdh cables and currently using the gold hybrid xlr altho hope to upgrade sometime , will shortly be getting some chord epic which is a downgrade from my last ap cable [needed 6.5 m] but its pretty affordable s/h and easy to terminate .

Hi Lee,

Do let me know what you think. I love mine, and wouldn't change them for anything else! :)

What plugs are you terminating them with? These make a HUGE difference, in terms of optimising the performance of the cable.

I can provide some recommendations, at various price points, if you wish.

Whats the opinion on twisting the cables together, is this necessary

RobsterD

No real sonic benefit but a nice gentle twist with a bit of heatsink was what I did.

Marco

I found that there was a slight difference, sonically, from reducing either inductance or capacitance (I always get mixed up which). Basically, I just gently plaited them together, a bit like my wife does with her hair :)

Lee, if you find the plugs you've got a pretty crap, I've got some nice VDH banana plugs, that are specifically designed to work with the cable, which you can have for a good price

The connectors are a bag of crap on these wires, basically there is 3 different types, would it be ok to use them bare until I get some decent connectors ?

Hi Lee,

Nightmare, dude.

I've got a mint (boxed as new) set of eight of these (banana-tip type):

...which I can do you a good deal on. They'd be ideal for the job!

PM me, if you're interested :)
