While i'm at it... :)
I can actually relate to the sensation when the first owner must have felt when he/she packed this beauty up some 40 years ago! And the most amazing thing is that it is in MINT condition!
Not the most impressive SQ wise, but nevertheless a good performer!

That's in great condition, Mike. A mate of mine had one, bought it in 1975 or so when we were 17. That's a long time ago, now.

That one is early - a PL12AC from '72 or so and the best made of the lot :)

Thanks, Dave. I wondered about its exact age, thought it was a PL12D. They look very close to each other, what gives it away?

The silver control pannels give it away. The 'PL12AC' came out before the 'PL12D' & 'PL15D'
Rubber bands and magnetic bearings are

Great loking tt Mike! I really like the Clearaudio's. Is that an SME M2 it's carrying?
Br Mike
Thanks Mike, yep SME M2-9 which I think is very good, a good friend in Germany was really surprised when he first heard it as he has 2 SME Vs and didn't think it would be nearly as good as it is.
Hi Mike,
Lovely picture and turntable!
I've been saying for years that the M2-9 is the 'sleeper' in the SME range, and thus where the 'biggest bang for your buck' lies, in SME-land. It's a fantastic arm, which does justice to a wide range of cartridges and really should be more widely used and acclaimed.
The problem is, SME don't market it as proactively, as their magnesium-designed arms, nor do the hi-fi press 'push' the M2-9, or for that matter, the equally superb, M2-12R. Therefore, people will buy a 309, before an M2-9, thinking that its the significantly better arm, when in my experience, it isn't; it's just more expensive, and also marketed as being the more 'desirable' option.
I'm not surprised that your friend's Series V wasn't wildly better. Trust me, you'd get a similar shock if you heard an M2-12R against a 312S, or with the right cartridge (such as an SPU), even against a V-12! ;)
Marco.
Thanks Marco, I have to agree with you with only a slight amount of bias. The M2 is definitely livelier then the more expensive SME arms but not as accurate which is a compromise I can happily live with.
I would like to be able to fit a 12" arm but I haven't quite worked out how yet, probably need a longer rubber band and use the motor space to place an arm pillar maybe. Some new internal arm cable will probably be going in sometime in the near future.

The general impression I have picked up from reviews is that the M series is better for MM and 300/IV/V better for MC. The M series has always been seen as an update to the old 3009 series. I read somewhere that an M2-9R may be in the pipeline. I certainly am quite willing to believe that with the same wiring there isn't that much difference between the magnesium Armtube 309 and the V.
Assuming you have actualty been able to compare the various SME arms personaly Marco (side by side) how would you describe the differences and is the M series realy as capable with modern MC designs as a 300 series? I know you don't like the presentation of the top SME arms so is that colouring your opinion somewhat ? Also synergy with particular TT's comes into the equation. For example the Gyrodec was used to develop the V originaly so is a particularly good match for this type of design.
In the real world it is almost impossible to compare the various arms. Many dealers only stock 300/IV/V and cover the lower price range with Rega derivitives. Result, one is reliant on forum opinions which are either strongly one way or another. The only member on here who has probably lengthy exposure to both flavours of SME arm is Beobloke (Adam) and he is very much a fan of the current 309 after reviewing it for a certain magazine.
So how good are SME in the current market given that other alternatives exist that sound excellent such a Audio Origami and Audiomods?
Hi Mike,
Thanks Marco, I have to agree with you with only a slight amount of bias. The M2 is definitely livelier then the more expensive SME arms but not as accurate which is a compromise I can happily live with.
Well, I guess it depends on what one deems as "accurate". Accurate to what exactly - some rigid technical measurements, which don't tell the full story, or "accurate" to how one's ears perceive the sound of real voices and instruments?
One can often, in my experience, 'over-engineer' the life out of things, which is where I consider that SME have gone wrong with their magnesium-designed tonearms. Yes, they measure better, technically, but to my ears, they sound musically 'flat' and boring, as a result. Their turntables are similar.
The reason why the M2 is "livelier", is simply because the stainless steel armtube rings at a frequency which, IMO, better replicates the natural resonance characteristics (and distortions) of real instruments and voices, and therefore, sounds more 'musical', as a result.
In my opinion, it is because those resonances are effectively damped, in SME's magnesium armtube designs, that it allows them to measure more accurately, but consequently, sound 'flat' and rather lifeless, unless one uses them with a cartridge and turntable, which ameliorate their intrinsically 'over-damped' sonic signature.
However, that's known as 'system synergy', as Paul's referring to, and a different thing entirely from defining the inherent sonic signature of a tonearm, and crucially, how fundamentally this impacts on music reproduced.
Paul, I'll get to your post later. I've still got to answer your point about the SPU, on the MC cartridge recommendations thread! ;)
Marco.
The last time I heard my friends series V it was on a Micro Sieki DD TT with a vdH Colibri in it playing through some valves into open baffle speakers so "technical" is not the word I would have used to describe the music that was released. Having said that, I do know where you are coming from and I would have to agree that the V can sound a little restrained at times.
Paul I think it is just a personal taste thing whether you use a MM or MC in the M series and when I get around to replacing my MC one I will be going for something a bit better.

Yup, and it's that "restrained", overly-controlled quality, which I don't like, and don't consider as being natural, or indeed faithful, to musical reality.
But, of course, that's just my opinion :)
I would say, however, that your friend clearly has good ears, and is using his V in the right kind of set up, surrounded by ancillaries, which will keep the V's intrinsic sonic failings successfully in check.
Marco.
Good ears is only the beginning he also builds most of his stuff so it was always interesting to turn up at his place, always something new finished that sounded great.
Sounds like an interesting guy :)
Marco.
I'll see if I can find some piccies of some of the gear he has built tomorrow. My ipad is not playing well with AoS tonight so I'm giving up for the night.

Yep, I've tried most of the SMEs now and, frankly, it's still the V that I lay awake at night dreaming of! The 309 though, is a fabulous arm, and offers a good chunk of V performance for less outlay.
The M2-9 and M2-10 are lovely things with gorgeous midrange, but their bass is a little loose and ponderous - use them on something like a Technics SP10 or a Garrard, though, antd the effect is minimised but they still lack the sheer impact and power of the 300 series and the IV and V.
As to comparisons with the V, the Audio Origami PU7 is the arm that I have heard come closest to it and it beats it in terms of what some describe as 'emotion' if you like. For me the V does not romanticise anything - it is very clean and precise but its sheer dynamism, impact and unfailing sense of authority are what I love about it and I have certainly never found it to be lacking in 'musicality', for want of a better word.
Meanwhile, back on topic, I suppose it's time I got my camera out now that my turntables are gradually coming home after they were stored safely away from our house move. I'll see what I can do over the weekend...
Hi Adam,
As Paul correctly alluded to, our respective opinions on SME tonearms are simply too context-critical to be in any way conclusive. Just like you've never found an SME V lacking in 'musicality', neither have I heard the bass of an M2-9 sound "loose and ponderous".
All one can do, therefore, is call it as we hear it, in the context of the partnering system :)
However, what I would say is that I've heard the effect I've described with SME magnesium-designed tonearms too many times, in too many different systems, for it to have been just an accident. Furthermore, most people I speak to about it agree - as indeed Mike did (to an extent) by using the term "restrained".
Meanwhile, back on topic, I suppose it's time I got my camera out now that my turntables are gradually coming home after they were stored safely away from our house move. I'll see what I can do over the weekend...
Ha - the elusive camera... Let's hope it's rather less 'shy' this time, when popping out to play, than it is when you promise to take pics with it at the vintage audio fairs!! :ner: :D

Adam, your old editor reckoned that the Funk Firm FXR II @ UK£1,175.oop was better than a SME V sometime back... care to elaborate on this :) ? Its alot of money for a Rega derivative?
Look forward to your pics and hope you've recovered from the move?
Ron :D
Good point, Ron.
Having listened to both, then purely on sonic terms, I'd much rather have an FXR, than an SME V.
The problem is, though, people buy with their eyes, and also focus too much on brand reputation, although I'd say that 'badge desirability' was often nearer the mark! ;)
Marco.

..... And build quality and finish....
Indeed, Darren. However, as long as a tonearm is built to a high standard, functional, and 100% reliable, such things are of little importance to me.
What will always be of paramount importance, however, are the highest standards of audio performance.
Quite simply, I'll never view hi-fi equipment as 'jewellery', but as simply tools as the means to an end, nor would I trade ultimate engineering prowess, or ownership of a 'badge', for out-and-out sonic performance. YMMV :)
I think the above would be highlighted rather nicely by what types of customer would buy an FXR or an SME V, or for that matter, a highly-modded Techy, or an SME 20/3... ;)
Marco.
I agree with much of what you say Marco and do not argue the sound quality issues - I certainly haven't your experience with the components in question. However good hifi especially analogue components is really very expensive and there are many of us for whom the purchase of a thousand ( or two thousand) pound tonearm has to be a one off and has to look and feel as though it will last for a very long time.
Noting your own fondness for quality vintage hifi, which tonearm do you think will retain its value the best and still be valued in 20 or 30 years time?
Actually I remember the SME V on the front cover of HIFI News back in the '80s..... And today it is still widely reckoned to be amongst the very best. You could have a V then for eight or nine hundred quid..... What an investment it has proved to be! Decades of musical pleasure and zero depreciation. The market has spoken!
A fidelity Research FR64S? Those boys defo stand the test of time ;)
I do agree with what you're saying. I just admire Arthur's thinking 'outside of the box', 'race-tuned' tonearm designs, which appeals to me more than SME's undoubtedly elegant, but somewhat more 'brutal' over-engineering design concepts :)
Marco.

There's certainly much to admire in Arthur's work.... I still have a Mark one Pink Triangle.
Do you remember seeing FR64s and their ilk in the back pages of HFN for £150 back in the eighties? Wish I'd bought a few......
Indeed... Me too, dude. There are a lot of things I wish I'd bought, or owned then, which I wish that I still had now :)

Yes, it's very entertaining looking back at the For Sale ad's in old copies of Hi-Fi Answers. That was a time when, for example, you couldn't give away valve amps or Garrards - a Radford STA15 for £150 anyone?!
......And Leak Stereo twenties for a few quid only and the mono bloc versions for not a great deal more and Decca cartridges for sweet FA...... What silly, silly boys we were.

I remember a mate picking up a Garrard 301 TT (no arm), a Leak 20 amp, and Quad 57s for about 300 quid in total, he added a Rega arm and a Croft pre-amp and that little joyous bundle sang from the word go I tell you without a lie :)... When I think about it now I wish I could get my foot near my arse so that I could give it a good kicking, its that sinking feeling you get when Miss World turns you down :(

Tell me about it. I was offered the chance to buy a Leak Stereo 20 complete with preamp for about £20 when I was 18! Didn't have the money then and didn't think to ask my father for a loan.

Hi Andrew. The best way of describing the MN composite platter is that presentation is, in a way, seemingly calmer, i.e.: midrange is less shouty on certain records. Bass is the biggest surprise with better texture and it certainly goes lower with less smearing. Masses of detail and a lower noise floor. All-in-all much, much better than the standard platter. I should add that a the moment I am not using any mat, with records going straight on the platter.

Sounds good John, Less shouty in the mids probably due to elimination of colouration caused by the ringy stock platter. Lowering of noise floor is always a BIG plus, obviously allowing the 'proper' stuf to get through :) I want one too ;)

Andy, I too have the MN Cu/Ali platter and I have heard the Funk platter and definitely don't think its better, just different.... I think it is dependent on room and ancillaries used. I know this will make Marco and MartinT angry but I think the Funk platter makes the 1210 look a bit plasticky. I would rather have Mike's vinyl composite platter on looks alone in preference to the Funk one. This is, of course my personal opinion, as neither platter is for everyone and no doubt will divide opinions?

Hi Ron, I remeber Martin kindly describing the presentation of the FF as being the ever so slightly darker side of neutral compared to the Mike New ali platter which was vearing slightly to the maybe brighter side in his system. How would you describe the MN Ali platter in your system as a matter of interst ?? Secondly I think the FF, MN Ali & MN 'plastic type' Composite all look good and better on the Techie than the stock platter in my opinion of course :)

I've found someone selling them really cheap, but I've got 100's I want that aren't available.
I've got records from 20+ years ago, but they're mostly rave/techno stuff.

I smell the beginnings of an addiction. ;)
Origin Live is the company that first inspired me to consider upgrading the arm on my Techy; so, I owe them (and give them) some respect. Besides, they make some pretty nice stuff... ...as you've no doubt deduced. :)
Happy LP Hunting!
Not in the competition for obvious reasons but as far as turntable art goes I honestly think this is a "thing of beauty", not only does the arm match the 401 aesthetically it is a stunning tone-arm, myself and Dominic listened to it a few days ago and we both agreed "The Wand" could quite possibly become a landmark product. The wand and the 401 are a match made in heaven IMO.
I will write up my thoughts on it later.

Well guess what, I took the 401 to Dom's with the 309 on, it's been on there a while so I know the sound it makes very well, the wand was fitted and tweaked by the Analogue Maestro Mr Harper, considering the 309 cost 3 times as much, the wand took the honours.

Fair do's Marco, what i get from bespoke items from reading about them in forums is it takes a lot of fettering to get it performing optimum,
real labour of love approach, i must admit i am blinkered in that i've never been to a bake off or hifi show so my exposure to hi end kit is very limited,

Yoo iz entiltit to yo' opinyon, brovva... Obviously I wouldn't have sold you my MN platter if I thought that it was better, sonically, in the context of my system..... ;)
Out of interest, when did you test the Funk platter directly against the MN, and in what context? :)
Marco.
Yo Marco, just come back indoors and caught this. When de Sun shine I head for the great outdoors, chuck in a couple of friendly blow flies and I feel like home :)
To answer your question: The first time I heard the Funk platter on a Tekky was at Whittlebury, to synergize the performance the arm in use was a Funk FXR so I would imagine that the best performance would ensure (I had been interested in the Funk platter well before it went into commercial production)... it did not do it for me and I much preferred the second table which used a stock platter with an Oyiade mat and SME 309. Both these turntables I listened to via Comrade Cawley's set up of of TS HE, ANT cartridge amp and ANT headphone amp... I use headphones etc for setting up my turntable and cartridges as there is no room influence and I can get channel balance just right plus up and down the volume as required so listening via headphones was not a problem for me, also it help cut out show attendance noise. The next time I encountered the Funk platter was at the Scalford Show as I wanted to hear yours and Martin's setup, same TT, more or less same PSU, identical Funk platter. Now these are two tek TTs that are maxed out would you not agree? I came away from the demo feeling let down as I expected a great listening experience, I did not get one for reasons probably not related to the TTs themselves. The next morning I fired up my own Tek w/MN platter + the inferior (?) TS HE psu and listened via headphones and then stereo speakers... It was simple, I preferred mine with the MN copper ali platter... I'm so pleased that you found the MN better as this turned out to be to gainful for me and the rest will go into history :)
With sincere respect to you and MartinT, you both have a following on here that people will emulate because, lets face it, you're at the Techy's performance pinnacle after exhaustive (?) research and considerable cash outlay but that comes with a realisation and responsibility that some people's preference may not be the same as yours and that is where you and I diverge on the platter matter, MN or Funk? Your sacrifice was my gain  Also, we must avoid the old 70s 80s 'Jimmy Sez' blind following with out standing up and saying, very politely, 'Jimbo, I actually prefer this one' ;)
But not all is lost for me, I have a Funk Acromat on my Tekko, I have a Funk Acromat on my LP12..... at least for now:).
Toodle pip, Ize orf to the outdoors and sunshine, might be the only summer I get!
Ron
Hi Ron,
I hear ya loud and clear, matey. Thing is, and I'm sure you'll agree, it's very difficult to make conclusive judgements on anything at a show, where almost everything is different to what you're used to at home.
I won't comment on Cawley's set-up, as goodness knows what kind of bodge it was (with his Toytown PSU, in the equation), but regarding our system (really John and Vic's system) at Scalford this year, I think you've hit the nail on the head:
I came away from the demo feeling let down as I expected a great listening experience, I did not get one for reasons probably not related to the TTs themselves.
Remember that the system you heard contained some rather 'Marmite' open-baffles, which were very much an acquired taste, housed in a room which couldn't have been more acoustically dreadful if you tried!! :spew:
Don't get me wrong, even under ideal conditions, you may still end up preferring the MN platter, over the Funk, but such comparisons, in order to be truly meaningful, need to be undertaken using your OWN reference system as the test bed.
Therefore, perhaps I could pop down sometime to your place, and we could do a proper comparison between both platters? I'm sure that it would be an educational exercise for both of us, and I'll be sure to come armed with a few bottles of half-decent vino! :eyebrows:
Marco.
I came away from the demo feeling let down as I expected a great listening experience
That room was dreadful, Ron, and I was embarrassed as my deck does not sound like that normally. Back in the context of my system, it sounds great. However, whether you like the Funk, Mike New or some other platter doesn't really matter. I'm pleased when anyone yields what is hidden in the grooves with their turntable. Neither do I want to create any kind of following except for the cameraderie of us all enjoying music. Variety is the spice of life :)

yes I read it today and I agree totally wrong. The Benz review was spot on though....weird. I put it down to a lack of synergy with the tt and arm. It really beggars belief that you can do group reviews and one item, in this case the TT/arm combo will serve all the carts well. Same goes for group reviews of speakers, CD players etc.

Indeed, a near impossible task... I think one has to take the findings of most magazine reviews these days with a large pinch of salt, simply because of the fatal lack of thoroughness by some magazine reviewers and their staff.
it wouldn't happen at HFW, would it, Adam? ;)

Hi
I use it with the Platter that Vic" sells, it really made an improvement in dynamics and bass firmness"
Speed- i dont keep it turned on all the time, but uses the Clearaudio 300hz devise that can be seen in the lower left corner i front of the motor unit, it is quite accurate and makes dialing in the speed a breeze
The platter i think weighs around 16 kg, according to the reviews that has been published , but it really feels heavier, ill have to put it on the scale one of these days -
The Graham Phantom- i think its the best tonearm that i have heard - it betters the Breuer i think - and its 100% the easiest to set up correctly that i have ever tried, i feel like :dance:every time i listend to it:eyebrows:
Ah, I didn't know that there was an aftermarket platter made for it... Interesting. 16kg - wow!
Regarding speed, what I meant was how long it takes that huge platter to rotate at the right speed, from a standing start ;)
If I were ever to use another tonearm (with a 'normal' MC cartridge, rather than an SPU), the Graham would be the one. For me, it's the ultimate in uber-engineering, and the clever choice for a high-end tonearm.
It also, for me, relegates the status of an SME V to no more than that of a second-class citizen! :eyebrows:

Wow, nice!
Expect a prize for this one for sure! Any chance of a close up of the arm and cartridge please?
That, for me, is the only way to do belt-drive,...
But it's not the only way....
Nope, but it's the only way, in my opinion, that speed stability is ever as accurate (and constant, under load) as a good direct-drive T/T is! ;)
Marco.
But it's not the only way....
Please don't start!
This thread is for pictures of turntables, not pointless discussions about drive systems, take that elsewhere if you don't mind.
thx :)
Don't blame, Mark, daftee, it's my fault! :eyebrows: Mark was only responding to my prompt.

No, not yet. That's one for me to try soon, I think! :)

Ah, I didn't know that there was an aftermarket platter made for it... Interesting. 16kg - wow!

Hi
Sorry- my English is not good enough, its not an aftermarket platter but a "after market Platter mat- the one that trans Fi Vic sells, and it is very good/
one could think that some of the idea in a high mass platter goes out when using it, but who cares- its a matter of what sounds the best !

Apologies - no offence intended. Of course there is often little connection between visual aesthetics and sonic performance, and I accept and understand your statement that your SP10 is a 'workhorse'.
But I thought the purpose of this thread was to seek images of sexy, or visually attractive, turntables and arms.
If it were simply one of submitting turntables that had a good reputation for sonic performance regardless of looks, then I would suggest my EMT 930 (as Mike (BTH K10A) did a while ago), were it not that some might regard it as "ugly as sin".

Personally, I think that EMTs are gorgeous - but then I love 'industrial chic'! :D

...are about the only non-professional and modern T/Ts I'd own. Professional broadcast turntables are, for me, where it's at. So, let's be 'avin yer EMTs, SP10s, Garrards, TD-124s, etc.
As long as the picture quality is good, your 'workhorse' T/Ts are in with the chance of a prize!
I've decided that next year I'll either be getting another Copper amp, and going active with my Lockwoods, or buying one of these 'Hammertone' babies, from Grail Audio, and popping it in one of Dom's slate plinths, as a back-up for my Techy:

Oh yes! The all-gray hammer finish 301 is, to my mind, the most attractive of the all 301's. They were used by the BBC in the '50s, fitted with a parallel tracking arm of the beeb's own design. I never liked the 'domestic' version with its pale cream finish.
If you buy one Marco, I would suggest you seek out a 'Schedule 2' version, with the oil lubricated bearing. The most sought after are the 'Schedule 1' versions with the grease lubricated bearing, and these fetch the highest price.
However Garrard were encouraged by the BBC to develop the Schedule 2 version, as the Beeb complained of deck rumble when playing stereo records (with their vertical modulation information) on the Schedule 1 models. Until the advent of the stereo record, the earlier Garrards were fine with monophonic records where the information is contained in a laterally modulated groove.

I actually don't mind the pale cream one, but I *much* prefer the hammer finish, as it just looks suitably 'sombre', in the BBC tradition, such as one would find in one of their control rooms from that period... I can just see it in a nice slate plinth, with my Ortofon arm and SPU on it! ;)
Sonically, I've no idea how it'd compare to my Techy, but it'd certainly be different!
Interesting about the parallel tracking arm. I had no idea about that, and indeed wouldn't have suspected that such a thing would've been suitable for broadcasting purposes... Got any pics?

Marco.
It sound more neutral than my Cirkus and Lingo LP12 with the mid and top end ranges sounding more detail and dynamics.
Instrument and singers are placed rock solid into the sound stage and the sound is lifelike and well integrated compared to the LP12 which tends to be a little blurred.
The bass end of things is where it stands out it has amazing pitch stability and ability to separate drums and bass guitar with a detailed and dynamic realism that I've not heard from any other turntable.
In general it has a seamless and effortless flow on the music with the ability of make my ES14 sonically disappear which was never the case with the LP12.
Sharif.
Have never seen the Phonosofie before. Is it manufactured by Thorens or simply by using their stock? And the tonearm is TP-90 , quite a nice arm i think!

Br Mike
The Phonosophie No.3 was designed by Ingo Hansen.
Thorens made two version based on the No.3 and they were called the TD2001 and TD3001.
I believe the only parts the No.3 has in common with Thorens turntables are the lid hinges and the speed knob.
When I brought the deck it came with the TP90 tone-arm which I was going to replace with a Naim Aro but after listening to it, I decided to keep it.
Shame that it may have been Thorens only super arm.

Thank you Marco for noticing my quite unassuming photos they pale amidst the beauties surrounding them! The EMT is an absolute pleasure! It's a close relative to your SPU. The sound is robust, great bass and even greater "musicality". Combined with the unerring speed stability of the Techy which was much improved by adding the much greater weight of the MN copper-aluminum platter (the photo was taken with the original platter in place) the PRAT-factor is unbelieveable! Also the EMT has a healthy output of 1mV at 5cm/sec which serves the inbuilt SUT in my Nagra PLP very well. Hope I'll geht the offered SR5 from Paul Hynes;)
Nearly forgot to mention the Kuzma ebony clamp which was horrendously expensive (a birthday gift from my wife) and is the icing on the cake. Hard to describe what the clamp does but it makes the music sound better!
That sounds like a VERY tasty set-up indeed, Michael! I think your T/T deserves a better close-up:

We love that cartridge! What is it a JSD 5 or 6? :)
Here's a couple of my fav pics of the JSD5:

And a REAL rarity in the form of its big brother, the SL-M3:

Cool! I don't know too many other owners of this one. Mine isn't currently in use despite really liking it. Nice MA1, too.

That control panel reminds me of nytech. Looks very interesting, how does it sound?

I loved your room at Scalford last year, the one where you bought all your 'track programmable' turntables with you - fantastic collection you have. I love the SLM3, never seen one before. I could get into collecting turntables like that, I tell you :)

1/2 the problem is where do you put them all?
I only have 3 SL1210's, garrard 401, srm tech arezzo, technics sl110, lenco GL75 x 2, GL69 x 1, and a rather nice Ariston RD11

Likewise with reel to reels. They're hardly small are they! I should have stuck to collecting high-end Walkman's!

I have seen them stacked Nick on Tapeheads in a few guys rooms, impressive but not sure if that's a good idea?

Agreed, they need space and something like decent support. If you have to pile them up you're probably in it for the wrong reasons!
I need to get rid of some of my TT's as there is simply not enough room to store them all. It's hard to decide which one's though!
Geoff (Oldius) hasn't asked me to do this, but given the superb selection of T/Ts he's got, I feel duty-bound to post pics of them, on his behalf:

Superb eh?
That G99 was one of the best turntables I've ever heard...
What I love about his set-up, and indeed would be essential for me if I owned more than one turntable, is that they're all properly set up and ready to play! He can swap between them in seconds.
For me, there's simply no point in owning loads of T/Ts, if half of them are 'ornaments', or abandoned projects, and thus never see any proper action......

I know what you mean :eyebrows:
Finally, there's been too much of that silly 'is it a DJ deck, is it a hi-fi deck?' SL1200 in this thread, so here's a proper DJ deck, which also addresses the lack of red in the thread so far! -
