I got rid of my so-called "hifi" crap and installed a PAsystem:eek::lol:

Well, not quite so radical as that, but I have not had so much fun for ages.

I picked up a couple of Jamo 400 Professional PA speakers about 10 years ago. Some kids father wanted shot of them as his son had bought them and just dumped them in his scullery. Building work was starting and he wanted shot of them. So £25 sealed the deal. Absolutely mint and looked like they had never been used. 15" Dual magnet bass, Midrange Horn and 5 bullet tweeters. 94dB sensitive.

I have used them from time to time for "Disco's", but for the most part they gather dust in the garage. Anyway I thought I would give them a go. Linked up to a Tripath K2050 amp......After I had stopped laughing, I started to analyse the sound. I sit about 6 - 8 ft away from the speakers. I would liken the listening experience to being about 6 feet away from the stage.

My initial impressions were that they were a bit too clean and "hifi". However listening today I was transported to the venue on each track. A totally different experience. When I go to a live gig, the thing that I never get at home (or at least not in the same tangible way) is that bass in the chest experience (either Double Bass, electric or bass drum).I was getting constantly hit today and you hear all the harmonics of the each note and the grumbly stuff (if it is there).

I was surprised that with 5 tweeters a side that I would have the skin taken off my teeth, but not so.

I went to the Chester Group show at Weybridge a couple of Sundays ago. Nothing that stood out particularly (except the price tags), but what I heard in rooms with speakers costing £16,000 a pair, is what I heard today. So....on a wet BH Monday I am thinking that £25 was well spent:D

I used to live with my soundsystems pa (or part of it) in the living room as the main hifi.
IIRC there was a couple of 2x15" bass cabs, mids were 2x12" and a box of tweeters on the top. All this was powered by the soundsystem amps.
The neighbours loved us!

Started to write my speech for my daughters' wedding which is only 3 weeks away :eek: and tried to figure out why my Cyrus cd xt se transport keeps skipping :doh:
Seems to be a common problem - been back to Cyrus last year but started playing up again badly this last week. Just wondered if it might be an issue with the PSxR power supply (hoping more likely) anyway since switching it off I have not had a single skip :) mind you only played 3 CD's so plenty of time yet to be disappointed ;)
If it does turn out to be the PSxR darned if I can figure out why

Surfed eBay for kitchen speaker solution, cleaned the house for arrival of in-laws and then joy of joy found my engagement ring that has been missing for 6 weeks :) :) :). Just got my kitchen speaker budget back. Hurrah for bank holidays and in-laws

Ordered a heap of new stuff for the 1210! And started to redesign the 1210 plinth :eyebrows: Walked the dog 2 hours and studied for 2 hours for my MSc and now listening to a bit of Duran Duran on vinyl of course.

Was dragged away from my otherwise blissful weekend of ripping vinyl to a well known DIY store for a new shower head, the old one was worse than useless to be fair... whilst there i happened upon the houseplants section and bought a couple of heavily reduced gigantic foliages... :stalks:from £20 quid to £2, one for £1.50....dont know where the hell we'll put them. They looked a bit sickly but nowt that a drop of babybio and some water won't take care of. Also picked up some posh compost and a big pot for 'selina' my long suffering cheeseplant (as featured in my system gallery)...

Also picked up some tomato and chilli pepper plants for my greenhouse so not a total wasted day!

Now back to ripping some of my vinyl... some of it is in an atrocious state after years of DJ abuse on badly set up systems and then 15 year of neglect. Took to washing some in the sink with a soft cloth they were so bad, they do sound better after that though

On our local news was some footage from Chatham Steam Fair...."people are flocking to this event today....." well if the few that they got on camera constitues a "flocking" then the place was positively heaving.....:lol: Wet and Windy BH and minority interest = poor turnout IMO.

Repeated listens of my next Album Club selection and the new Counting Crows album on Spotify (pretty good IMO)

Cleaned the whole flat and did the washing - that was real fun :rolleyes:

Watched High Plains Drifter, now I'm going to have a scotch and watch the latest Homeland before bed

Went on a bus tour of Canberra followed by a boat trip around Lake George and then back to the National Folk Festival which was the main reason for going.

Had my mate round from the Wam who brought round some Van Den Hul MCD 102 MK III XLR balanced interconnects which he was selling for £40, safe to say they did not go back and are now installed into the system.

I am now contemplating their speaker cables "The Wind" as I am suitably impressed with the I/C's

Spent the rest of the day playing some music and playing lego with my son, rounded the night off on ebay looking at a few carts!

Funny you mention that, years ago when I was into Yank tanks, I had a Trans Am, with a lot of engine mods, one of which was some v expensive HT and plug leads, they were bright yellow, and had (I recall) a carbon type of stuff inside, around the actual wire or whatever it was, and they looked soooo similar to the VDH cables of today!
