Well after a 10 year gap, I finally got two thirds of my old record collection back from a friend, a third is still to come.

So yesterday I started to sort them all out, put them into the covers and arrange them into genre. Total time was approx 3 hours.

I used to DJ, wasn't bad actually, so most of them were completely out of their covers, inserts and sadly some of them could not be rescued. A lesson learned me thinks, but hey no point crying over deep deep scratches :(

This exercise was very very enjoyable remembering not only where I bought the records (most from 1990 - 1996) but where I played them, from house party to venue through a proper sound system. Some flashbacks if you would.

There are some 'crackers' in there from some old 1st edition Motown to R&S Recording Mentasm and some breakthrough hip hop featuring a very very young Mos-Def.

Good job I've got that bottle of IPA, the lint free cloth and a carbon fibre brush.

When playing some of them you can tell their condition isn't the best, after a good clean they sounded better, and then another clean and another play the needle has shifted some of the microdust.

I know you guys use or have used cleaners and I've read the threads with interest, and I may purchase one at a later date.

The whole day yesterday was very very nice indeed, I can't wait to get the remainder of my collection and of course adding to it.

Thought I'd share what was a great day indeed.

Long live Vinyl, long live the King.

Hi Graeme,

So glad to hear you are "home" again with the vinyls;)

I had exactly the same experience when I "refound" my vinyls last year after more then 20 years without them. I too used some hours sorted and placed them in my bookcase. I found vinyls I had forgot and others with a lot of history behind:)
When I started listen to them I was amazed by the sound quality and regretted for not bringing them up in my living room many years ago.

My biggest problem now is my collection is growing out of hand:eyebrows:

I hope you will have many good hours before you together with your vinyls;)
