Really a beautiful system you have there, congrats! Would love to see pic of the listening room also.

Have you been faithful to Koetsu for longer period of time or used something else also? If you would like to say a word of two about the differencies of the SUTs that would be interesting subject.. ;)

The Head Sut is a lovely item. I own one and while I don't use it much, its one of those items I will never part with.

Nice looking set up.

Have you been faithful to Koetsu for longer period of time or used something else also?

Hi Mika many thanks for your kind comments. In terms of Koetsus I have Red, Black and Coral types I also use an SME 3012 Series 1(A) with an Audio Note IO and have a number of Ortofon SPUs & JS SUTs:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f298/furylovelolly/AG%20Ebay%20Shop/L1030859.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f298/furylovelolly/AG%20Ebay%20Shop/L1030116.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f298/furylovelolly/AG%20Ebay%20Shop/DSCN4746.jpg

Each cartridge and SUT has it's own limitations or perhaps a better way of putting it would be 'character'. I personally believe it impossible for any recording / Hi Fi to fully capture and reproduce 100% genuinely the sound of a live performance and as such I like to listen to recorded music which I can emotionally connect with and on a good day perhaps be swept up and taken away all but physically.
In terms of what sounds like what my preferences seem to change with moods but I do consistently rather like the 301 with the 3012 series 1 paired with a Mono SPU via JS traffos. For me at least this combination seems magnetic.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f298/furylovelolly/AG%20Ebay%20Shop/AG-Thorens--Garrard.jpg
I also have a Thorens 124 MKII with Ortofon 309 which I rather like and is currently on loan to a friend

I understand you point as imho the industry is nowadays too concentrated to invidual components and their performance instead of the system synergy and system as a whole even including the room you're doing the listening. And naturally with different tonearms, carts, cables, SUTs etc. this is even more true ;)

But marvelous combinations you have there have to say..

Does the Audio Note IO cartridge use a field coil, replacing the permanent magnet? Is that the reason why there appears to be some additional wiring on the SME 3012 Mk. I arm?

Yes the IO Ltd is a field coil cartridge requiring a separate power supply

Love those Airtight amps. Great fit and finish to them. I've heard a few in my time. I recognise the ATC-2 and ATM300 and the other one is an ATM-1S? Any particular favorite?

Hi Dave, the 1s had a reasonable amount of grip for some 15" Tannoy Reds I was using. The 300 has the mid range and is better suited to the Westrex speakers.

It's been a while, so things have shifted about a bit.

Another speaker project was the Vitavox Oracles with the Westrex Acoustiles horns and 2080 HF drivers. The center speaker is also a Westrex
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f298/furylovelolly/12795254_1292414770776102_1978485800242429634_n.jp g (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/furylovelolly/media/12795254_1292414770776102_1978485800242429634_n.jp g.html)
The Lowther TP1's were a stop gap - the speaker in the middle is a Westrex 2326A (Successor to the Acoustilens)
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f298/furylovelolly/TP.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/furylovelolly/media/TP.jpg.html)
Finally after a couple of years searching a partner to the Westrex 2326A a nice three year old post on a French forum eventually led to a happy speaker marriage

The Westrex shares many genes with the Altec but altogether is a different beast from magnets to diaphragms, crossovers and general component quality. Here's some better pics of my one
