Selling my fantastic Croft Series 5 Power amplifier.

Reason for sale I need funds to put towards my holiday to Trinidad next week.

I purchased this Croft 2 months ago from Matt here on AOS. Please check the link below, Matt's description of the amp is just fantastic.

In very good condition for it's age, and sounds very good. This Croft worked very well with Mission 752 Freedoms.

I don't have any suitable box, collection only I'm afraid. I'm in Southall, West London.

Looking to get back what I paid-£550.

I'm very cross with you Shane!

With respect and apologies for being patronising, I don't think you fully appreciate the stuff you own and, much as I love the Quad 909 you're currently after, it's not really going to sound any different or "better" in the wider scheme of things, just louder... I just cannot regard good vintage audio gear as "toys" to be played with for a month or two and then disposed of when you get bored, sorry!

If I had the money I'd snatch that Croft amp from you and hang on to it, putting the Quads away for safe keeping. The Series 5 was a charming, not so little amp and capable of great musical enjoyment and "suspension of disbelief" which is a term I keep coming back to where audio reproduction is concerned.

Someone, PLEASE take this amp and give it the lasting home it deserves?

That really hurts, Dave;)

If I don't do well selling this amp, I might just keep it!

As you can see, this Croft is using JJ EL84 valves. Does Glen think of the JJs highly?

Shane, I unreservedly apologise if I'm too up-front on this.

But my fear is that in years to come, you're going to look back and wish you'd kept it, it's that good in the scheme of vintage audio things....... If the Micro Basic were to become a Series 25 proper, or equivalent, you'd easily hear how easy upgrades upstream were to hear..

Yes, this is very true. I've heard the Series 5 with a Micro 25, a 25R, and with a two box even more advanced than the 25RS. The improvements were really significant; much tighter with the regulation on the pre-amp, a greater sense of space, and then much more tonal colour. If my speakers were a little bit more sensitive I would not look for anything more than a Series 5.
