Well, I've had an upgrade. I've acquired a NAP 200 power amp to boost the Naim Uniti, and it sings really nicely!

I bought it secondhand from Elephantears on here, and it sounds fantastic. A definite upgrade to the standard Uniti.

That is a lovely looking system you have there Dave and the Stax rack seals the deal for me. I bet it all sounds great too

Indeed it does, Dave. The next step for me is to have the turntable serviced and upgraded and a replacement cartridge fitted.

The NAP200 is far better than the (already good) amplifier in the Uniti, as it delivers more current to the speakers. I've learned that power isn't the issue as such; it's more to do with how it delivers current and the damping factor involved, and the investment has paid off.

I'm in a similar situation Dave. As good as the Hafler is, its not really up to the quality of the rest of the system and I feel it is holding it back a wee bit. I've been looking at Quad amplifiers on the 'Bay and I quite fancy a late 405-2, 606 or perhaps even a 909 if I can find one at the right price. Having heard all three I'm pretty certain any of the above would work well within my system. I might even consider a 306 if push came to shove ;)
