b+w dm4 speakers and celestion ditton 15xr

Hi to all.Has anyone ever modified the b+w dm4 or the celestion .Do these mods do anything for resolution and controlling loose bass.I spoke to b+w and they told me the old speakers always sound nice because of loose bass and are not as accurate as modern offerings.I have however read about people who have upgraded crossovers and internal wiring etc to good effect.My real problem with the speakers is i find the bass to be loose and too warm .Also the top end does not seem to be crisp enough for me.I found this out when listening to some new focal speakers and found more treble detail.There is however something special about my speakers(sensitivity and ability to play at low volumes in late evening) but now that i have heard new speakers giving more detail i need to do something.someone suggested to me to ditch these speaker and get a full range driver eg fostex or jordan and place in a box and because there is no crossover the sound will always be more detailed .I really look forward to any help and advice you may .cheers

I am very surprised that the top end on your DM4's doesn't sound crisp. I run a pair of DM2's which employ the same drive units and the midrange and top end are second to none. I'm wondering if perhaps the Coles units (the supertweeters) are shot on your speakers.

A lot of modern speakers use tiny bass drivers with little magnets so it is not so much a case of them being more accurate in the bass, they just produce less of it. It could be your super-tweeters are shot or you might be using dull sounding source equipment - what is/are your sources and amps?

You need to do a serach of the Threads there is a very specific thread detailing what mods I have done to my 15xr's and some ideas on things that could be done to them.
