Picked this up for a 100 quid start this week

After stripping it down, it seems in very good working order. Started cleaning it up and ordered and new upgrade kit for the main bearing, new motor refurb kit, lube kit, grommets, belt etc.

The arm (if I decide to keep it) will go to AO in Glasgow for service and a re-wire+RCA conversion. Plinth I have not decided on - The Ortofon one would quite some work to look the best again.

This will sport my Cartridgeman MusicMaker when done (if ever) I think..

Will look nice next to the 401 I guess

Hi Natalie,

If he´s got 2 - ask him to hand one over :eyebrows:

I was afraid to post the actual price I paid, as it´s extremely cheap compared to the quality and general state this particular deck is in.

Btw. I will go for that slate plinth for the 401 we have been emailing around after summer, my yearly bonus will be in then

I have never heard one against a Garrard 401 though, any thoughts about that ?

Nice one Mikkel! :)

Don't be afraid in mentioning the price - we all love bargains. I have three 124/II s. All are second hand.

The first was bought for £38 some forty years ago, having had only two hours of use.

The second cost me £750 (but it did include an SME 3012 arm and M55E cartridge).

The third cost £350 and was bought from a certain "hi-fi emporium". It was not as described, had been 'fiddled with' and needed a small repair! :(

Yours including the original plinth (sporting the 'Ortofon' logo) is a very nice sample. Indeed the custom plinth alone would fetch more than £100 on eBay.

It's obviously a Mk II, but the internal wiring and junction strip underneath the chassis are very similar to that used on the Mk I version. What is the serial number of your Mk II?

Hi Barry,

I agree, bargains are nice and should be shared !

The wiring seems to differ slightly due to DEMKO (Danish Electrical Material Control) apparently had demanded specific changes to the electrical layout. The Thorens TT´s therefore has thicker wiring with extra screening and tidier routing. That could be the reason.

This is supprted by all wording on the plaque underneath the subplatter - it´s in Danish as well.

Serial No is. 63842
