View Full Version : phono settings for my sl1210
Hi there
My phono stage has arrived and I'm going to fire up my new sl1210 tonight for the first time.
It is completely standard and has the standard stanton cart.
I see that my phono stage has adjustments for gains etc (whest ps 3rdt)
Any idea what I should set these to?
Thanks
You should just have one setting for MM carts and multiple settings for MC so as the Stanton is MM just set the Whest for MM and off you go - which Stanton is fitted just out of interest?
Thanks Martin.
I don't actually know which stanton it is! I'll have a look when I go home.
Tbe Whest is second hand so it may be set on a mc setting. I'll open it up tonight and make sure it is on mm (hopefully as you say there will be only one(
Thanks again

Hi David,
Plz let us know what you think after listen to your new "little baby":)
I hope you will not be disappointed.
Thanks
The cart is a stanton 500 -II
I've had a look at the phono stage now and the adjustable settings are for load and gain. It is set at the default setting of gain 65db and load 100ohms.
Is this the right setting for my cart?
Thanks

No that's MC , change it to 47k load and gain around 40 db
I can tell you this deck sounds pants.
Well it did until I followed Chris's advice on the settings. Now I am over the moon! I must say I never expected it to sound so good. I'm really impressed with the sound. Maybe there is a synergy with my elctronics?
I'm really really pleased with this deck.
Just fyi my kit is
sl1210 > whest ps 3rdt >audio research LS17>Lyngdorf sda 2175> Lyngdorf Room Perfect> Monitor Audio Platinum 300 speakers.
I paid quite a lot for this deck as I wanted a pristine/mint one but it is still a bargain.
Thanks to all those who have helped me over the last few weeks. Imho your passion for this deck has been vindicated. I'm quite fussy but this deck has been one of my best buys.
Thanks again!

Pleased about that , you have a fine set up I would say and you won't need to upgrade the whest in a hurry .
Play some more vinyl would be my advice for the time being .
Thanks Chris. The wife and I are listening to a whole stack of vinyl right now that we haven't heard in about 20 years. It sounds great.
A particular heartfelt thanks to you Chris as you are one of the people who has tried to help me at every stage.
