Thinking ahead guys about a more natural table for the bulk of my system. I am loathed to have actual hifi stands there and would rather try and use something like this:

The plan would be to modify the legs so there is a degree of isolation and levelling capability. Also, if necessary I could buy 4 pieces of slate or some isolation platforms of some kind an dthe equipment could sit on them.

Does anyone use something similar or know or know of a good product ? The problem with the table in my link is that whilst its nice thick study wood, its just a bit too deep to fit against a side wall.

Good slate is not as cheap as it sounds, unless it is full of pyrites, then is looks naff. I would design the whole thing around slate and get it all in for little more than £300. Maybe a bit of DIY involved, but definitely worth it, though for that price you would have to collect it.

Or avoid a hernia and do some DIY based around solid hardwood kitchen worktop ?
3m/0.6m/27mm 100-150 quid?

I would also look at Kitchen worktop, the oak looks great.

A recent thread here.

Look for the thick 38mm or 40mm as looks a lot better than the thin worktops.

Spot on Mark, the thicker slabs are not hideously expensive either... Perhaps also available in the London area..... as an alternative to Fleabay, and one you can see before you buy....?

Quite forgot about that thread on AVF.....
My own preference would have been a perhaps darker wood to give lesser contrast between the blocks after sealing, but it still looked a lovely job.....

Hows about something from this range of audio racks, they look like they would fit the bill http://www.hifiracks.co.uk/
