Metal platter mats for the Sl 1200

Ive seen quite a few of these available on the market being copper or aluminium, I was wondering if stainless steel would work? we have a laser cutter at work and I was contemplating making one

If SS is good enough for a Kenwood/Trio L-07d and this Thorens..i can't see why not, but there may be weight issues

Another thing is finding the correct ss grade, probably something with anti vibration/non magnetic qualities.

are you considering putting it on top of the stock platter mate?

you won't be able to make a platter from it as the positioning sensor off the old platter would need to be forcibly removed and put on the new one

copper is quite good as a mat, if you are not intending to buy a completely new platter there is nothing to beat the oyaide mat IMHO

a thin stainless mat may slide too much on top of the stock platter, a thin rubber mat may work in between if you want one gratis

so maybe make a stainless mat 1mm thick and put the rubber sheet underneath and see what happens?

I was intending to put it on the original platter in the same vain as a normal rubber mat. I thought of stainless steel since stainless has no magnetic properties and would not damage the cartridge.
