I'm using a Dynavector 20XL, mounted on a Zupreme(Sumiko) headshell with the Technics tonearm. The 20XL has 12 X 10-6 compliance but I've read that generally Japanese stats are at 100Hz so this should be adjusted to 21 @ 10Hz to be used in a resonance calculator.

I calculate the resonance frequency of this combination (using mass of arm - 12g - plus additional weight of headshell - 4.5 g) to be about 6.8Hz. Using a stock Technics headshell I obtain about 7.5Hz. These results are below the recommended 8-12Hz range. It would be even worse with the higher mass Jelco SA-750D tonearm which is often substituted.

Does anyone have a problem with using this Dynavector cartridge on a Technics 'table? Are there other good (reasonably priced) MC cartridges - other than Denon 103 - which work well on the Technics? Are my concerns groundless?

I'm currently using a Dynavector DV 20X2L,Technics arm and Sumiko headshell to great effect.

You say your already using the 20xl...have you noticed anything irregular?

btw... the Sumiko headshell weighs 14 grams not 4.5 :eek:

Hi Charles, you're correct about the Sumiko headshell weight (my Zupreme is just a little lighter probably because of the different arm lift) however the mass of the Technics arm includes the headshell at 7.5 grams. The 4.5 grams I used is the difference between the stock headshell and the Zupreme which I added for purpose of the calculation.

I really haven't had any problems with the Dyna 20XL but I wondered if the very low calculated resonance frequency - compared to the recommended range - COULD or SHOULD cause a problem? I don't know the answer.

Me either, maybe someone with more knowledge will chip in.
