Just a simple question ;) If money was no object which Krell monoblock would you buy and why?

Can I be difficult and old-skool and pick a KSA-300 instead?

I know it's not a mono, but it's my favorite.

I don't think I would (I would be more likely to look at Mark Levinson).

Why  ? I only ask because I'm considering a new system this year based around some kick-ass monoblocks :eyebrows:

Because I prefer them (it partly depends on which ML's though).

It'd have to be the MRA, though I'm not sure where I'd put them as they are kind of big

Failing that a pair of KAS, the first two chassis model

How about Lamm?

I think if you are being realistic though & you insist on monoblocks, then possibly the KMA100, which is the mono version of the early fan cooled KSA100. That or a pair of KMA160 or the later KMA300, as you wouldn't want to be in the same room as a pair of early KMA400 or the later KMA500 in the summer, probably not in the winter either with central heating on

Are these monstrosities worth all of the hassle of the heat they put out?

Well in a nutshell if you need a good bit of power & control the answer is yes imho. You could possibly find a valve amp of the same power, but it's likely to stick out even more heat :eyebrows:

The original KSA-50 & KSA-100 still take one hell of a lot of beating, and there aren't many reasons to need anything bigger than one of those - double 'em up for monoblocks into bi-wirable speakers if you must.
The KSA-80 was good too - but after that, I wouldn't bother to be honest.

A KSA-100 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KRELL-KSA-100-100-watt-true-Class-A-Stereo-Power-Amplifier-/150774083950?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiF i_Amplifiers&hash=item231ad5f16e#ht_2942wt_1344) comes up tomorrow on Ebay - the same seller has also got a matching PAM-3 pre-amp.

Actually the KSA100 is dual mono anyway now I think about it. Seperate 1.4KVA or so toroids for each channel.

They didn't mess about :eyebrows:

i have told the story before but for those havn't heard it, my mate had a pair of these driving Apogee Divas and had to pay the elec board 2k to upgrade his incoming power supply to 100 amps so there was enough juice on tap to run them

Really? A 100 amp incoming fuse costs about £5, and is fitted in seconds. Most suppliers will usually fit them for free.

I know you were talking Krell but depending on your budget position, have you seen these??

Yes Really, they had to uprate the cable coming into the house which ment digging up the road and pulling in essentually a three phase supply hence the 2 grand which is cheap as one of the swimming pools i built required the country being closed for a few hours a new supply dropped into a trench that we had to dig and the client still got charged 5 grand
