Before you say don't be a fool, of course you can do that, I know, I've been doing it since I had an SB3, what I want to ask is if I allow the Touch to swap library's over to my lappy, I can only play what is stored in the laptop, or listen to internet radio, whilst what I would like to do (in fact I am sure that a laptop or two ago I used to be able to ) is control the Touch and the attached hard drive.

Have I missed something crucial to be able to do this, or did I imagine I could in the first place????

Good imagination.
It has never been possible to control the Touchh running standalone via a web browser.

I'm assuming that you were using the inbuilt server when you connected the HDD directly to the Touch, which means that you were using TinySC.
It has never been possible to access TinySC from a web browser - the Touch hasn't got the processing power to handle web browser access.

It has never been possible to control the Touchh running standalone via a web browser.I guess I agree with you - though don't have all the details. However, if both iPeng and Squeezepad for the iPad and other i-devices can control Squeeze devices wirelessly via a LAN, are there not other apps or programs which can do the same from a wireless laptop, or even a networked computer?

I don't mean running the media server on the laptop and controlling it from there, either - which should definitely be possible, but probably not a good idea.

I thought someone might have developed such by now.

Slimdevices forum mention using squeezeplay on the laptop to control a touch.

I use LMS so I haven't tried this, but surely worth a go.

Have now tried it and it does work. Under Settings you can select Choose Player and choose the Touch
