Enter this code qx8hr6uqr at the checkout on the Logitech website today and you get 35% off any one item.

My dodgy maths  makes the Squeezebox Touch cost around £168 with this offer . .

Today only, apparently.

I know what you mean Alan. I have a Transporter, Duet, Boom, 2 Radios and an SB3. I just need the Touch to complete the set, but don't have anywhere to put it.

If I didn't have a Paul Hynes power supply on order for the Duet, I might be tempted to retire the Receiver . . .

Yea,tough one that, you could always sell the SB3 to make way.One on ebay right now going for £118 with 40 mins to go.I have a touch and a SB3 ,might be tempted to do the same...

They have the SB Controller at less than £60 in their blemished box section, so I thought I'm up for that with 35% off.....except when I click on it, it reverts to that bloody mouse pic, do I assume they no longer have them?

Could someone else try for me and see what happens?

Ta ever sooooooooo!

Craig - do you have an iPhone or iPad by any chance? The iPeng app for your Squeeze network is infinitely better than the Controller . . . .

Edit - I think there's also an Android app . .

So you got the same e-mail . I did get one as well this morning and couldn't resist anymore, so ordered the SB Touch with 35% discount and took the giant leap to the digital music. Should be delivered on Thursday or Friday and coming from the Netherlands.

So what do I do with it when I get it . I have been waiting the Bushmaster DAC from Stan and I assume they would work great together. Would it be best for me to buy external NAS server and start from there? I would like to rip all my CD's to the hard drive and access the internet radio stations as well.

This is all so new to me , please enlighten me. Maybe I should have stuck with vinyl...

Next acquisition will be the new ipad that my wife is buying herself:)
Any tips on using it with the touch? Im starting from scratch here...totally new learning curve that I have resisted for such a while as been happy using my Logitech wireless dj....laugh you may,but I was(am) very happy with it,and the controller lets you select music, playlists, etc. without going near the receiver, and plays any format...its bluetooth so no network...only prob is Im planning on getting a dac too and the dj only has phono outputs.

George - with an iPad the iPeng app is a must. It's way better than the Logitech app, and with an in-app purchase you can enable it (the iPad) to become another player on your network. Plug your headphones in, pour a beer, and relax in the garden . . :D

You said you're getting a DAC; another upgrade is a linear power supply. The Touch is the one SB device I don't have, so I can't give you first hand advice on how such upgrades will sound, but the original SB3 (aka Classic) and Receiver benefit from both.

The Touch can run as a standalone player with an attached USB drive, but if you install Squeezeserver on a suitable computer, you can get a wired or wireless network of players going around the house . . .

I'm sure Touch users here will give you more specific help. :)

Oh, there's always the Squeeze forum (http://forums.slimdevices.com/) too.

The Squeezepad app is also quite good. I did end up buying both. We could argue about which one to get if you only get one. I think it depends if you have multiple output devices, but even then, with the updates, the apps do both try to keep up.

They were good until recently, when I started having some problems, perhaps due to a software upgrade of the media server.

Worse than that - I've now lost my Logitech controller - it's somewhere upstairs. Reason: You'll hardly need it at all when you install iPeng and/or Squeezepad. The moral for you is that if these fail (as mine have currently) you'll need to know where your controller is in case you need to fall back on that.

morris_minor
13-03-2012, 19:55
Don't you only need the Controller for setting up the Receiver? (And even then there's a software hack to get round this..) With the web GUI of SqueezeServer you can always control your players. Plus, for PC users there's Moose as well...

I've just opened my SB Touch and I must say it's a fantastic toy. It took no time to get it going over wireless and streaming music from my PC over headphones. Pretty impressive. Now to hook it up to the main system and route its output through the Caiman.

So where is this being discussed? I particularly want to use my iPad as an interactive remote control (about time it does something useful).

seoirse2002
15-03-2012, 19:24
Yes me too!! and I also want to find out if using the app on my soon to be acquired android phone uses up the MB allowance from the network if I am using the phone as a remote?

15-03-2012, 19:48

Great to hear you are pleased with SB Touch. I got mine today as well :). I also went a bit gun ho and ordered 1Tb ZoneRipper NAS from Audioemotion. Gary gave me once again a great part exchange deal which I just couldn't resist .

Only problem is that I just don't have a idea when I have an opportunity to try them together because they went straight to the removal boxes waiting shipment back home.

You have to pay for iPeng, Martin, but it's in a different league to the Logitech app IMO. You can also enable the iPad to act as a player, which can be useful in some situations. Aside from mail and browsing its the most used app on my 'pad and for me was the killer app that made me buy an iPad in the first place, having used the iPhone version.

No - your Android phone needs to be connected to your home network in order to function as a Squeezebox remote.

MartinT
15-03-2012, 22:44
That's interesting, Bob. For me there hasn't been a killer app for my iPad until now but I like the Logitech app a lot. I have no need for it as a player, just as a remote control for the main system.

Well I discovered it on this site...

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/logitech-squeezebox-touch-blemished-box-only-129-99-logitech-1170412

According to the poster...

"Blemished box, but anyone who has ever bought a Logitech Blemished Box before knows that it usually doesn't even mean that ie box is fine but even if the box has a bit of tape on it, so what, it's brand new and you just chuck the box away anyway"

Well my order seems to have gone in OK.

Seriously, if I get an almost mint Touch for £130 inc postage, that has got to be the audio bargain of the decade.

And I was about to spend £99 on a HiFace USB/SPDIF converter....

Wayback when I got my first SB3, it was on a silly promotion from Amazon and when I'd got it running I couldn't believe how good it sounded for the money - audio gear at computer peripheral prices . That was the start of the slippery slope, and now 3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and study have players of one sort or another in . . . Hmm. Could start on the bathrooms now

Can't beleive they damage that many boxes, does all this discounting mean a replacement is imminent?

It doesn't matter if there is a replacement coming - it's a good product and most importantly the infrastructure around it (web-based control, apps) is excellent.

I bought a "blemished box" Touch last time they had this offer a couple of months ago.
Box looked fine, but could see from the tangled wallwart cable that the box had been opened.
And yes some one in Switzerland had it fired up; so I had to get hold of support as I could not register it on http://mysqueezebox.com. It was done by email and the day after it was running.

Well my 'blemished box' touch arrived today.

I examined it with the eye of a CSI investigator looking for signs of that blemish, or indeed that it had even been touched by human hand!

As far as I can tell, based on seals, protection film etc, it is ABSOLUTEY NEW!

Awesome!

This is getting repetitive! Just swapped my SB Receiver for the new Touch into a Metrum Octave DAC. Well chuffed! :)

You have to think the thing's going to be axed anytime now - no way was mine a "blemished" item outside or inside the box.

For the money, an absolute steal.

twelvebears
21-03-2012, 19:38
Well if they are going to axe it for something better (async USB output, full 24/192 high res support??), at only £129 I'll be quite happy to just put this one in another room!

Here's mine received today, small dent in top corner of box (may have happened in transit) otherwise perfect. Can't comment on the contents as I won't be opening it until the weekend, but all seals are intact and the box looks unopened.:)

I've got two black ones, but always wanted a RED one

Provided you don't set your expectations too high, these make very nice bedside players, or sets for the kitchen. If I didn't have a Boom (stupid name!) in the kitchen I'd get one . . .

Mind you the stereo Boom with its bi-amped DSP sounds loads better than the Radio: Logitech could do with making a stereo Radio with beefier sound . . :eyebrows:
