 it's now in my diary.
2 hours each way - a bit closer to me than Scalford.

Derby is perfect. Straight on the train at Sheffield..costs about a tenner, takes me about half an hour..
So do we have anyone here who's deffo going?
So do we have anyone here who's deffo going?
I hope I'll be going André - I've a roughly hourly direct train service to Sheffield (takes 50 mins), then as you say, another half-hour on to Derby.

Derby is just down the road from me (literally) so i'm in!
Quite a lot of people declared an interest earlier in the thread when the show was discussed last year, so once we confirm the venue, I'd expect those people to rekindle their interest in attending :)
There's lots to be discussed, including what the proposed format will be, etc, but that can be done in more detail when the venue is confirmed.
One major part of the show worth mentioning, however, is that Dave, from Greenholme Electronics will be doing his vintage hi-fi fair, and Stamford Audio will be attending, with their sales of vinyl, so you'll be able to demo your kit in your allocated room, pop down to buy a nice Garrard 401, then cruise by Stamford on the way back and pick up some 'tunes', before returning to your room, or going there (eventually) via the bar! :eyebrows: :drunk:
Non-exhibitors, just visiting, will be spoiled for choice what to go and see, as there will be lots of stuff happening, from live music, to DIY 'workshops', to talks from members of the hi-fi press, AND LOTS MORE...!
Marco.

I am looking forward to visiting. I think, certainly in the UK, amateur based shows such as this are the future. I go to pretty much all the shows and, in reality, the Wam show really has become the primary UK show - I genuinely hope the AoS show is similarly as successful.
Yep I'll be attending and since I'll be driving I can bring any amount of gear. Can probably give a lift to any North East contingent interested in attending.

You'll be typing pishantwo next!
What does "pishanto" mean?
The Grand Wazoo
06-05-2013, 18:16
It refers to the somewhat dubious quality of some of the goods that Al has been buying at car boot sales of late Barry - a term that has it's roots in the 'Jockatalian' that is sometimes spoken by a certain prominent habitue of AoS.
Alan is a pishantista of the highest order!

Ask Senior Daftee ;)
A purveyor of pish, of course, which the Alster buys loads of at every car boot sale! :eyebrows:

The show will certainly focus ears onto the music not the gear. Standing up and being 'counted' is different to typing. For the some people it will be a million brownie points. For some visitors it will be shocking. Totally unmissable.Be there!
I have it in my diary and if at all possible would love to bring my system along.
Can the first post of this thread be altered to tell all when the date and location is please?
29 pages is a lot to go through and I need to check my diary to make sure I can attend?
thanks
Yo daftee,
3/11/13 in Derby (probably). Date is definite. Venue has still to be confirmed.
Dave (from Greenholme Electronics), who's half running the show with us, has had a few personal issues to deal with, so unfortunately I've not been able to meet with him yet to finalise the venue.
Hope to do soon, though, and will update everyone in due course.
Marco.

David, I've not been able to find tickets for the Hi-Fi News show in Windsor. Will you be exhibiting there? Are you able to get tickets?
You can hire a PA system (http://www.thederbyconferencecentre.com/meetings-and-conferences/equipment-hire.html) for £90 etc. Sorted. No one need bring any gear.:eyebrows:

I don't know how set in stone the Derby venue is but I've stayed at this place a few times and it would be eminently suitable - £20 in a taxi from central Nottingham:
http://www.eastwoodhall-nottingham.co.uk/
The main building is an old stately home (used to be NCB offices) but the hotel and conference suites are all modern build. Beautiful landscaped grounds.

That's if you can hear it over the Rolls-Royce engine testing.... I used to work in Derby many years ago on Trent development. The desks would shake during test and you could hear it miles away. Sometimes at 3-4 am.
No one complained cos they all worked there I figured:D

Riff raff like us won't be permitted in apparently, anyway if its a choice between covering Whittelbury and one other show my vote is with the AOS show not the elitist closed door policy HiFi News show.

Paul Miller is organizing this show, doubt if anyone will be refused entry as the exhibitors won't be happy will they? Just look on the hifi news website for details, I have booked a room but heard nothing since.
The trouble is...
ticketing will be managed by online and postal booking from May 2013 onwards
...doesn't tally with...
Please return soon to discover more about The Hi-Fi Show 2013, including new exhibitors, events and competitions and for advance ticketing information

Hi David
Until there is an officially announced guide to this show re admission etc clarifying whether this is a normal show or an exclusive/non inclusive one, with a dress code - not just for exhibitors but visitors too - as virtually all who have talked todate about it so far have said and my sources re this info go over and above what Alan Sircom has said about the show here on AOS.
I have no issue re this kind of event - invite only, exclusive non inclusive events, they happen all the time - but if it is advertised as being a normal audio show which it has been so far but the intent behind it is it isn't, then I do. I think all UK audio enthusiasts and potential show attenders deserve transparency and clarification re who exactly is welcome to attend this event as civilian, forum commentators, audio bloggers, other publication journalists print and online etc and as far as I know that is yet to happen in the open.
My sources tell me to a man this was to be a small exclusive show and that idea has now spiralled out of control.
Regards Neil
Not sure if i've missed it but is there a format for this show?

I'd definitely be interested and would welcome peoples thoughts on my system so (if I can get appropriate insurance) I'd bring it along :)
I would like to hear your system - I doubt you will be able to get insurance for it though.
Guys,
I'm not sure what's happening with the show, as since coming back from my holidays I've not been able to get in contact with Dave Reynolds, who organises the Tonbridge audio jumble event, and was coming in with us on the AoS show....
I've been up to my eyes in it myself, trying to catch up with various things, after having been away for four weeks, and now I've got friends and family visiting for a few weeks, so I'll update everyone on the show, if it's going to take place, when I can. If it doesn't happen this time, there's always next year!
Anyway, when I know anything more, I'll let you guys know :)
Marco.

Hi Neil
I've just phoned the Hi-Fi News Show (http://www.hifinews.co.uk/editorial/page.asp?p=875) hotline and bought a ticket without any problems. There was no suggestion of tickets running short, either.
If anyone else is planning on going, let's organise a rendezvous at a time and place and meet up.

We nearly had a show in 2013 :)
Will we get any nearer in 2014 :D
I'd like to think so but won't hold my breath....
I think the way forward is to try and arrange mini local gatherings such as the NEBO, the Scots Mafioso and the Yorkshire cable sellers get togethers. Then at some stage those who want an AoS show could try and bring these various tribes together.

As a venue I was thinking of the North Staffordshire Hotel. It is directly opposite a west coast main line station so all you London types can get to it (1 hr 15 minutes from Euston, sixty notes return) and get home again pretty easy. It is old so has a number of large, ground floor rooms with solid walls, high ceilings etc. Lots of parking space at the hotel and nearby especially if we hold it when the University is on holiday. I was thinking a 1 day event with maybe 6 or 7 systems sharing a couple of large rooms and alternating through the day and a room for trade stands. nothing on the scale of Scalford but if you try to run before you walk nothing will happen so the idea would be to keep it simple. If anyone is interested shout out and I will speak to the hotel and see if they would lay something like this on. Here is a link to the hotel:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/britanniahotels.en-gb.html?aid=330631;label=msn-i84FtGWaYD_sPAVNSUgW%2AQ-459908851;sid=b4b660c7343d21045f714a3e0fea3404;dci d=1;srfid=caa32b6a2b52e11da191463ce9f7cb4204a83609 X1
Plans are in place to make it happen, chaps. Updates will follow when there is news to report.
Thanks for the link, Martin. That looks like an appropriate venue for consideration.
Marco.

I don't want to tread on the toes of the AoS show as that now seems to be happening again but perhaps it could be organised more as a large bake off; just booking one of the big rooms on the ground floor. I've been to a few work functions there so I know they have suitable rooms that will accommodate seating, systems and a couple of trade stands . If I can get some more interest it will be pretty easy to arrange it, I think. Was thinking about late May early June when the nights are light and it is a bit warmer. No need for any firm commitments but please, everyone, shout out if you are interested otherwise it will not happen.
I'll stick up a post in the new Bake-off section.
