Dave R came over today and fortified by a beer and sandwiches, he decided to cobble together my TD124, SME 3009 with Shure M97 something or the other. It's all been sitting there, untouched for over a year but 1 hour and a hacksaw later - here it is playing some Floyd using the latest pre from Glenn Croft.

About time 'n' all. Looks lovely. :)
Hope you had a good day, would have loved to have come and pestered you too, but another time.

It's the 25RS, which I believe stands for 'right stunning' or maybe not..

Hi Alex. You weren't being snubbed on this occasion I promise as there was other personal business to do on the way. A "threesome" :eyebrows:
at Daves is definitely on the cards soon, I promise :)
P.S. It was a brand spanking () new two box pre, which we compared to a 25R. Both sound similar, but since I didn't take any music of mine along this time and Dave insisted on inflicting some Paul Simon on me ;) all i can say is that the two box preamp just goes that tiny bit further still in "suspending disbelief" in allowing the "way" a song is sung or instruments played to come through. It's not a night and day difference, but an important one if you're fortunate enough to afford it.
Nice one guys, no doubt that system sounded superb. I'd love to hear the 25RS (perhaps to see how my 'race tuned' C-X stacks up against it?), as I think the new Croft 2-boxer would likely piss all over much high-end 'badge-fi'! ;)
Dave, perhaps I could pop down sometime for a listen?
Marco.

One thing that hasn't changed from the old mega Micro days though...
Transformer Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! It's not bad, but it is audible so even MY ears could hear it from a few feet away..

You miserable old g*t.
What's a bit of transformer buzz between friends ? It wouldn't be a Croft without some noise..
Seriously, for anyone reading this, the power supply has a slight mechanical transformer noise which wouldn't be audible if it was placed on the bottom shelf of a rack or on the floor. In my St.Albans shop, it wouldn't have been audible over the traffic noise outside but living in't sticks you can hear the worms stomping around in the garden..
Marco, you're very welcome to bring over your race tuned thingy, maybe next time Dave and Alex have an away day. You'll have to excuse the decor though - I realise you're posh.
Hi Jon,
Marco if you are in this neck of the woods..come have listen to this one with the 7r monos:D
That's a very kind offer and I may take you up on that! Are you anywhere near Halifax? I may be going up there to see Nick (Lurcher) about something soon, so I could pop by
Marco.

Yes, it's called 'character'! :eyebrows:

That doesn't really bother me, but it's one of the drawbacks of the cases Glenn uses now, and not being quite as good as they should be... There's bugger all wrong with the transformers - it's the cases that are a little resonant.

Ya decor don't worry me, baby - all az interested in is da soundz! :D
Seriously, Dave, it would be good to meet you and hear if my race-tuned thingy is up with the best that Glenn's making these days
Maybe sometime in April, if it suits? Hopefully, Dave R (and maybe Alex) will join us!
Marco.
Glenn's modern cases are better than the one mine is made with, don't rattle and in fairness, the other boxes Glenn makes are silent as the grave (mine probably :))
I'm quite used to transformer buzz - I was a bloody Naim dealer for decades (:ner:) and the Crown D-60's when used in the UK buzz like crazy (the D150 and DC300A don't seem to make a sound...) - and yes, on the bottom of a rack it won't be noticable :)

I wouldn't mind coming along; I do live in 'the area' and it would be nice to meet Dave R and Alex - though April is no good for me. How about sometime in May?
Regards
Ah, does it clash with your spring floral dress-wearing party, dahling? S'ok, I understand. And anyway, I certainly wouldn't wish to upstage you with my lovely new Easter bonnet! :eyebrows:
May it is then, unless Dave is attending his annual tea-cosy knitting convention?
Marco.

Well, I shall be half-way round the world admiring, inter alia, the cherry blossom in Japan. I may or may not be wearing a kimono. ;)
Regards
Ah, gotcha! No doubt the pictures will appear in the local newspapers.
Marco.

April is better for me as May is my time for topping up on T-bone steaks in Florida.
What about Dave R and Alex, the dynamic duo ???
Ah, sadly Bazza will still be in his Kimono!
Okies, Dave, hit me with some proposed dates in April, and we'll make it happen
Marco.

Very nice Dave.
I'm well happy with my system, I find the TD124 sounds really well with Croft gear.
I may upgrade my 25 to the 25R or maybe the two box affair later on. The special version of the 7R (plus upgrades) Glenn made for me is getting better day by day, very, very happy with it.
